Mobil 1 vs. Amsoil
I'm not going to start a my oil is better than your oil thread, but I just got the latest issue of Amsoil's Action News magazine and they had the results posted from a tests that were performed by an independant lab and I thought it was interesting. It was using the Classic Amsoil 5w30 vs. the new Mobil 1 SuperSyn 5w30.
The scores on the left are Amsoil, and the scores on the right are Mobil 1 Supersyn
Noack volatility test
4.90% vs 9.17%
Lower is better which means Amsoil evaporates less under high temperature operation
Four Ball Wear Test - 150 degree C, 1800rpms, 40kg pressure@1 hour
.40mm vs .60mm
Lower is better
Flash Point
230degree C vs. 224 degree C
Fire Point
244 degree C vs. 235 degree C
Pour Point
-51 degree C vs. -48 degree C
Lower is better
Total Base Number
12.35 vs. 8.45
The TBN represents how effectively the oil can handle contaminants and acid buildup.
I get this newsletter because i'm still registered as an Amsoil dealer, but i've been using Redline ever since I had my Lightning. My S2000 has regular Mobil Drive Clean oil, but with winter looming, i'm considering running back to Amsoil. I'm posting this here instead of in the general forum because something like this is almost certain to erupt into a my oil is better than your oil flamefest.
