i forgot which carrier, but some do not allow for liability to be removed.
USAA wouldn't let me drop my liability.

Anyway, back on topic. A new spoiler from Ganley is about as flawless as you'll get.

What happens then when you drop liability but do not un-register your car with the BMV. As long as your car is registered you risk getting one of the BMV letters that requires proof of liability coverage. The state of Ohio doesn't recognize a storage registration as some other states do. In Ohio it's either registered, needing liability insurance, or not registered (and shouldn't be on the road or being driven EVER, not even on nice days).

Edit: I found this on the BMV site. I've been told incorrectly by more than a few people that I couldn't drop liability to put the car in storage.
************************************************** *************
Random Verification of Financial Responsibility

The BMV is required to send written notice by regular mail to the owner of each vehicle randomly selected, informing the owner that proof showing financial responsibility coverage was in effect on the date specified must be submitted within 21 days of the mailing of the notice. This notification is sent to the person at the person's last known address as shown on the records of the BMV.

The owner may submit evidence to show that the vehicle is exempt because the vehicle:

Is used on a seasonal basis only and the date specified is out of season for that vehicle;

Is inoperable or has been out of service for a period of at least 30 days immediately prior to the selection date or;

Is exempt for any other reason the BMV may prescribe.
Thanks for that info - I was willing to take the chance, plus having heard that you can get the issue corrected if you're willing to fight it. But it looks like either the law itself was fixed in the last year or two, or people (me included) were just misinformed. Either way, saves me about $200/year.
