Anybody know any good driving schools in the Cleveland/NE Ohio area? Or maybe in the Detroit area?

Pick up the September 1 AutoWeek. They happen to have a Driving School Directory in this issue. Mid-Ohio has one. You can check out their web site for details. http://www.midohio.com .

There is also Tracktime in Manchester MI. They have a sportscar performance school, Formula 3 open wheel school and stock car school. www.tracktime.com.

Negative. There are a couple guys who took their S to Mid-Ohio and Gingerman this year though.

ubetit has done the MidOhio school. I'll PM him for details on which course and his impressions to see if he'll post to this thread.

I am really thinking about one of these, but am not sure which school or how much I want to spend. I am thinking of sometime next year and going all out $$$$-wise. We'll see.

I took the Acura High performance class last fall and had a great time. I'm waiting to take day two which is the advanced course.

You'll first begin with an hour of class time. They go through oversteer and understeer, how to brake, keeping a line on the track and commiting to it, and things like heel and toe shifting.

You'll then get in your modded RSX type S and break into 4 groups. There are 4 excercises you'll do. Slalom with cones, AutoX, wet braking and heel toe shifting and then the steering/braking correction in a civic skid car. You are then grouped by the times you turn in on the excercises. There is a fast, medium and slow group.

Now comes the fun part. You go out onto the track. I was placed into the fast group along with 7 others. You then follow the instructor on the track trying to maintain his speed and line. You then drop to the back of the pack and let someone else follow directly behind him. During this process you are still running in a pack of 8 cars all following each other. They moved some of our slower guys into the medium group and one of the guys in the medium group into our group. We did the track for about 2.5 hours or so.

THe last part of the day I got to ride with one of the four instructors while they raced a few laps. That was fun. I wish this was earlier in the day because i learned more just watching their steering and braking input. All in all a very good learning session. I did well on everything but the AutoX. I did really well out on the big track though. I had my RSX up to 120 on the back straight away.
