Trip to the Dragon
The wife and I will be taking our first trip to the Dragon next week.
We are leaving Tuesday and going to stay Tuesday night at Cumberland Falls State Park Lodge. The Cumberland Falls is one of only a few places in the world that can create a Moon Bow when the moon is full. Luck will have it that Tuesday July 7th is one of the days where a Moon Bow has the possibility to be seen. Hopefully the weather is good and there will be clear skies.
Heading the rest of the way (about 2 hours) to deals gap Wednesday morning. Going to stay in Alcoa as base camp, wife will not give up her cell service.
That will give us a few days to checkout the Dragon and Hellbender and other drives (maybe the foothills parkway - any suggestions). We can pick the best day or days depending on the weather to have fun and drive.
If there is enough time we will take a drive over to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg.
Looking for suggestions for other drives and places if interest to see while we are down there.
In the WTD thread there was a picture of some water falls. Can someone please tell me where that is at?
Thanks

Hey Bill...You are going to luv this trip...!!!!!First time on the Dragon
WOW....!!!!Try this road...it is awesome...A little less twistie than the Dragon...and a mile high. The views are to kill for....
http://www.cherohala.com/
....also, try RT-28 ( the Hellbender) another great road....
Bring your camera, 129, South of Deal's Gap..is the Dam that Harrison Ford jumped off of, in the movie.."The Fugitive"
What ever direction you go...the roads are great.....
Bill, drive the road at your comfort and skill level. Don't let anyone push up into something you don't like! Pull over and let them pass. Include Non-Drowsy Dramamine for your passenger if she is the slightess bit prone to car sickness, but most importantly
Have Fun

i'll look for you down there. the wife and i are leaving tuesday morning. we are going to drive the dragon-hellbender tuesday and wednesday. stay in robbinsville tuesday. maybe catch some of the blueridge parkway on wednesday evening. then spend the night in cherokee. thursday morning. take 441 across the mountain range to gatlinburg. like other have said don't miss the cherohalo skyway and check out fontana dam it's off of 28.
Denny thanks for the road suggestions I'll be sure to check out those other drives.
The wife will make sure I don't get stupid and try to over drive the roads. Her comfort level is below mine so she will keep me in check. I hope the traffic will be light so I don't run up on slower drivers or have others run up on me.
S200045302 I'll look for you, maybe we can set up a time and place to meet up
