What to do??
Hello, I was in the process of closing the deal on a 2003 S2K from a dealer outside of Columbus. I went to this dealer for price, value and 'feel' for the dealer wanting to satisfy my purchase request.
The S2K I wanted was not in their inventory, but I was told they would 'get' one as soon as I gave them the word that my financing was in order. Well, all is done financially and I began to ask about how they would 'get' the car. I was told they would trade the one S2K they had for the one I want. When I asked how the car would be delivered from the other dealer, I was told it be Driven from the other dealer, which in this case is approximately 100 miles!! When I asked if the dealer would flat-bed the car in, I was met with the old, "well that will cost 3-4 hundred bucks more" comment.
My question. Am I wrong to expect a 30K plus car should not be sold or delivered with almost 100 miles on it? I just have a bad feeling. I realize it may be more of a mental thing then a real issue, but I am open to this forum's esteemed comments.
Thanks in advance.

You could always offer to go pick it up yourself, if they will let you. That might be a fun road trip and it would give you some peace of mind that your baby wouldn't be redlined pulling away from every stop on its maiden voyage.
Or are both of the dealers involved significantly out of your way??? Maybe we should organize a road trip to go pick up your car?

There's another member (no longer around) that did exactly that. Drove out with a guy from the dealership to Erie, PA to bring the car back. Due to insurance, the guy from the dealership had to drive, but at least the new owner knew how it had been treated on the way.
If it's 100 miles away, why not just phone up some other dealers? Try Ganley Honda in North Olmstead (where Hardtopguy works) or Jay Honda (ask for Jeff Wells). They may already have what you want.

sounds like he chose this dealership because of the dealership itself, rather than availability and price.
however, if "service" was the reason why you chose this dealership, the $3-400 transportation fee probably left a sour taste in your mouth.
nontheless, if you want to make a roadtrip to pick up the car, let me know..i'll go.

I took my '03 silverstone/black with about 300 miles on it. The price I got was phenomenal at Jay Honda - Bedford, OH. (440) 439-1846 X 125 JoAnn Fazio.
Tell her Mike told you to call. Then tell her you need to discuss the deal with her and Mark Lyon (sales manager). I couldn't have asked for a better deal (other than a free car). And believe me, I checked prices everywhere in NE Ohio. No one would even MATCH the deal. I even checked the prices when I went to Indiana U to pick up my daughter. Even there, the Honda dealers couldn't match the price.
I don't think I can divulge my price - They thought I was someone special when I went in to buy the car (Of course I am
but that's another story).
Seriously, my car was driven in from Farmington Hills MI to Bedford OH by the sales manager. I assume he wouldn't treat what HE has to sell like a piece of junk (LOL- same amount of letters of the real word I was thinking of). And I haven't had a speck of trouble with my S2k at all.
But the idea of driving 100 miles to get the car is not so bad either. These cars are a dream to drive. I can't suggest a better therapy session than driving top down on a beautiful day with the tunes blasting.
What I would do would be to call the sales manager at the other dealership and see what price he will give you. These guys want to move cars more than they want to trade for one. They trade, they still have inventory to get rid of. They sell, they make a profit. And check the internet listings of the 'real' prices of these cars. There is invoice and then there is 'secret' invoice. Get the best price you can.
Well, that's my 2 cents.

Just a thought.
If you're buying the car from somewhere in Cleveland, let me know.. I can give you a ride up first thing Sat. morning ( might be a bit early though ). Pick your dealer..I'll drop you off.. I usually head back up to Cleveland from Columbus on Sat. morning so it's no big deal.
(Aren't S2k drivers nuts?)

I bought mine in Y-town, but then they had to do the same thing...trade another dealership for the color I wanted, which was in Erie Pa. At my request they drove me up to Erie, and I drove MY "S" back!
