wtb a nice set of tools
anyone know where i can get a nice set of tools for cheap-need to upgrade the garage from my scattered sets of cheap ones. iv been looking at craftsman. let me know if you can help, thanks.
Craftsman makes good tools. They have a "Replace" warranty. If you check their tool catalogue, you will find some good buys. Are you a "Craftsman Club" member? You can get a 10% discount, if so! If you are planning on working on your"S"you will need to get a mixed set, to include "Metric" They are the only Mechanic's tools I own.
yea thanks man, iv been looking at different sets. i want a decent set to start with(around $250) and will add to it eventually. i was just wondering if there was a cheaper place cuz i like to save money. anyway, is it easy to become a craftsman club member? thanks for your input.
I would say it depends on what you need the tools to do. For general work like fluid changes, brakes and routine maitenance you should probably only need a set of Benchtop sockets and wrenches from AutoZone, they have a lifetime replacement and very cost effective. I use them as hand tools but when I do larger jobs (transmissions, engine swaps etc.) I use Craftsman sockets for my impacts(impact specific sockets), Snap-on has numerous "specialty" tools that can make jobs much, much easier. I do reccomend a good set of ratcheting box end wrenches, Snap-on has a very good set. I would say for cost effectiveness pick up a set of 8-19mm Benchtop sockets (deep well & regular) from Autozone, they should run around $16 if you break one take it back and they give you a new one. I also swear by 6 point sockets as 12point always round things over
. I've always had a Snap-on ratchet, not sure why but I'm not a big Craftsman fan, I've broken many tools and honestly for the cost I reccomend Benchtop, there cheaper and have the same warranty. If you're doing something that will break a Benchtop socket then you'll more than likely break the Craftsman one too so I don't see spending the extra money. I will however spend the extra money on Snap-on tools, (except sockets) but for wrenches, ratchets and specialty tools

red,
if you give me the model number of the set of tools you're looking for at Sears, I might be able to get you a discounted price (> 10%). I have a friend that works there and owes me a favor. PM me if you still need this.
