I saw one today in my neighborhood, I still love that color. The sound that car makes is awesome.
I fired up my dad's ZR1 last night and it made me want another American sports/muscle car. Man does that car sound absolutely devilish above 4k rpm. Hopefully, if the rain holds off long enough down here, I'll get to drive it tomorrow.
Like that orange color, the jet stream blue metalic he got looks incredible in person and the chromed wheels are the perfect compliment to the paint color.
The clouds lifted, the rain left and the roads dried - thank you Car Gods!
As a result, I was able to sample some good ole fashion American Muscle!
BRUTAL! ABSOLUTELY BRUTAL in its delivery, the ZR1 dumps the torque like a colonoscopy prep, till the tires scream out and feel like they are trying to squirm off the wheels. The car... I mean, Blue Devil growls its way up the RPM gauge till it lets out a primal sounding roar at 4000 RPM that screams its way up to redline. You really can't prepare yourself for the way this car accelerates. You are at a loss for words and find yourself mumbling and giggling like a school aged boy. It's freaking absurd!
I tried counting seconds from 50-100 and couldn't concentrate enough to continue counting as the tires searched for grip all the way through the upper RPM range. First gear is just about pointless, only remaining somewhat useable with the aid of traction control.
There were other noticeable traits, but they are colossally eclipsed by the POWER this car has been bestowed with by the Car Gods.
Did I mention the FREAKING, STUPID POWER?
Without a doubt this car is the quickest vehicle in the senior Barton stable.
I did drive the Z06 right afterward to get a back to back comparison. In a nut shell...
Z06 rides harsher with a more bouncing feeling.
ZR1 rides pretty darn good even in sport mode, to the point I could see driving it daily, but not the Z06.
Z06 is easier to drive normal with the clutch engagement and gearing.
ZR1 was not happy moving away from stop signs and stop lights with an easy-on-the-throttle approach. Maybe I needed to get used to it, but it was tough to be smooth with initial roll away and 1st to 2nd gear shifts compared with the Z06.
Z06 is just about as quick from 0-100 (perception) but the ZR1 trounces it from any mph above rest with its mountainous torque curve.
Both have race car gear whine and noises coming from the engine and tranny - I remember this in my 2003 Cobra too.
Feeling quite satisfied after two huge helpings of HP, I thought I would share the photos and the experience.
