This is being postponed... new date TBD
[QUOTE=JulieU,Jun 9 2007, 11:28 AM]Thanks to David, arrangements have been made to float the Niangua River on July 14th. |
Work permitting I would Like to go.
|
Hmmm.... Did I read Float Trip! It's been a couple of years for us as well. Sherry, I and a close group of friends use to go every year, spend the night in tents, and leave the next day. No drinking involved as I don't drink :D
Missouri has some nice float trip areas if you would consider that. WOuld love to jopin you, but don't know if time will allow us to do so. |

If this is on a weekend, it sounds like alotta fun! And it's affordable...
Based purely on driving distance for me, I like the idea of the Illinois River. Keep me posted... |
Count me in for sure! Just let me know the details
|
I'll do my best to make this trip! I leave tomorrow for a three-day trip down the Buffalo River, which is another river to consider. It is one of the best floating rivers in the area in my opinion, and there are some great roads in that area.
The Mulberry may not be a good choice for a relaxing day of floating and partaking of libations since it has quite a few class II+ and class III rapids, although it is a great river. I spent three days on it last spring kayaking with some other kayakers and a couple people in whitewater canoes. We pulled a lot of people out of the river after their canoe got swamped or they dumped it in a rapid. In low water it may not be too bad, although you may drag a lot. |
Wow, the Buffalo River looks/sounds like a good one, too! We'll definitely keep that in mind. Thanks, Jamie!
|
I haven't been on a float trip in years! Sounds like fun.
|
Last weekend, I had an opportunity to check out highway 90 :drive: and drove by River Ranch Resort in Noel, MO. It looked like a pretty kewl place. Do any of you have any experiences with the Elk River and/or this resort?
Also, how does |

Also, how does June 23rd or 24th sound? Keith |
Ok, so now I'm thinking about driving up on Friday, renting a cabin, sleep, float Saturday, crash and then come home on Sunday. Anybody wanna throw in on the cabin rental?
|
Nah. You got this.
|
How much is the cabin? I'll prob throw down. Whatever happened to tents???
|
The price of the cabin depends on which resort we go to. Right now I'm leaning more towards a place on the Elk River in Noel, MO, but I need to go scope them out and decide which one will best suit our needs (I plan on doing that sometime this week).
You're welcome to camp out in tents, but just personally I prefer someshing with A/C, running water, electricity, etc. :D |
Well let me know as soon as you figure it out! Also, if you are going to go check out these places let me know, since I am closer I may be able to go for or with you :D
|
I'm taking this Thursday (June 7th) off work to scope out the area. :woot: Holla! :D
BTW, found another cabin rental place... Off the Deep End |
Well, our little pre-trip today didn't go very well. Every resort along the Elk River in Noel is booked up until August. So David (2001S2000) and I hunted down a library and pulled up some other rivers. Right now we're leaning towards the Niangua River. According to Google maps, it's just over an hour from Springfield, just under 4 hours from Tulsa and just under 3 hours from St. Louis and Fayetteville.
Anyhow, nothing set in stone yet. Stay tuned for details! |
wow Julie, your community seems very exciting...wish i could go to the cabin also. :(
|
You guys should consider floating down the Guadalupe down here in TX... It rocks...
|
^ More info please. :D
|
Thanks to David, arrangements have been made to float the Niangua River on July 14th. Overnight accommodations (Friday night AND Saturday night) for ~12 people have been made at Cedar Ridge Campground.
We figure the total cost of lodging will be $263.13 (about $22 per person if divided amongst 12 people). The prices for watercraft rentals are very reasonable: $27 - kayak $35 - canoe $80 - 4-man raft $110 - 6-man raft $130 - 8-man raft We can do either a 7-mile or 12-mile float (same price). Cedar Ridge does have RV hook-ups ($10) so if anyone wants to, bring it on! David says their parking area is gravel (although pretty well packed), so not sure if y'all want to bring your Ss. We need to know how many people will be participating so that we can adjust the reservations accordingly without penalty. Therefore, please let me know if you'll be joining us no later than July 1st. |
Too far for my blood - you guys have fun!
