Hello hello
Just wanted to pop in and say hey. I'm a Tulsan, so I figured this would be the best board to check out. I've been thinking about getting a new car lately, and I've decided I'm going to pick up an S2000 - it's the car that I think would best fit me.
Any advice on purchasing? Location, cost, extras? I'm probably going to get it in two months or so (maybe a little less), so I'm doing all my research now.
Oh, and I saw a yellow S2000 today, maybe it's one of you guys. Driven by a young guy (think he was blonde, but maybe that was just the Spa Yellow blinding my eyes).
Anyway, good to find this site, and some fellow S2000 fans!

Not really any certain location. I bought a black 2000 with 23k miles for 18,000. So start there. You'd probably want a 2002+ because most people dont like the plastic window for its more likely to break than the glass windows that came with the 2002+. Also 2000-2003 come with the 9k redline for which the 2004+ come with only i think 82-8300 redline...so i think its less vtec time, but i just like the fact of redlining at 9k. Something u do get with the 2004+ is better traction control because of the suspension setup and the wider tires in the back due to 17in rims instead of 16". I think the best deals of buyin a used S2000 would be on this site at the For Sale Forum under Cars For Sale. They sell there cars a little modded or no mods at prices better than u'd find in most dealerships and private sellers on ebay or autotrader...probably because they know if your on this site, ur sure to take care of the baby they've been taking care of since day 1. Check that out and see if theres any you like. Also if you were to buy an s2000 near the beach/shore areas like penn. state or florida or somewhere on the coast watch out for what it can do to the underbody of the car. I know my car coming from penn. state was a pain to deal with because when we wanted to change the exhaust the underneath of the car where bolts are they were all corroded i...can't think of the name but it has to do with being close to the ocean..all the salt and sand. You could get a 2002-2003 for about 21-23k and sometimes lower. And you could get a 2004 for around 24-26k..and again sometimes lower. Check out the for sale forum and if you need any help with picking out one whether its mechanical or the looks/paint/interior of the car let us know and one of us will be happy to help you out any means possible. We have some experts here so ask away and Good luck on your purchase!

Welcome, Eric! If you find a used one in the area, I'd recommend running it by Four Star for a pre-purchase inspection... or some of us can take a look at it with you. As far as locations, I'd just stay away from places that put excessive amounts of salt on their roads during the winter time. Just my opinion, but I'd prefer buying one from a private party over any stealership. That way you can ask the owner questions such as what kind of fluids he/she has used in it and what services have/have not been done. I bought mine from a private party (well, kinda) in August of 2004 and I still call the previous owner with questions from time to time. However, if you end up buying a new one off the lot, more power to ya... factory warranty is always a plus.Just my 2
Thanks for the responses!
I guess I should have clarified. I considered doing used, but as I've never bought my own car before, I wanted this one to be my OWN car. Which means I'll be getting a new model. Most likely a 2006. After all, this is the last opportunity to get a new S2000, since they're discontinuing the model after this year (sadly).
The biggest issue I'll have to deal with is the dealer, and getting a decent price. My goal is to pay about $30K even, or less. I think it's possible. I'll be going through my credit union to set up payments, so it shouldn't be TOO painful.

What color?
The whole "this is the last year" thing is based on the fact I can't find ANYTHING out about the 2007 release. Plus s2ki.com itself made a comment that Honda's releasing the new XGA and stopping the S2000.
FYI... Joe Marina Honda > Don Carlton Honda... IMO.
