Default Any Upcoming Driving Events in PDX?

I know about the Porsche Rainbonnet event at PIR next weekend (Saturday-Sunday, 11/8 and 11/9), but I'm booked with other things. But otherwise, is that *it* for the year or are there other things going on, autox's, track events at PIR, group drives, etc.? Seems like we need to organize an event or two here in PDX. Just a thought/suggestion...

Best,
CB

I'm going to the Team Continental Driver School on Sat Nov. 8th. The Porsche Rainbonnet sounds like fun, but are they allowing other marques?

The PacificNW track/racing season is winding down and usually goes into hibernation from November until March. PIR gets turned into a drive-through Christmas-lights display in December! (your only chance to drive the track counter clockwise! )

If you start to get cabin fever, you can go to the many California track events scheduled throughout the Winter months, since they don't shut-down for the season. I had a great time last February at the Speedventures event at Thunderhill Raceway (15 turns of chills and thrills including a moto-cross jump! )

Hi Marcus,

YES, the Porsche Rainbonnet event (like pretty much *all* Porsche events) is open to other marques. I've always found them (unlike Ferrari) to be pretty amenable (i.e., not xenophobic) to those of us lower on in the food chain.

Of course, I'm sure they'll like me less the first time I walk all over the back of a 911 Turbo for a few laps, like I did at Pacific Raceways two weeks ago, until I get a point-by.

I'd join you for the TCDS, but I've already got plans. Sounds like fun, though. How was the H'ween rally event?

Any interest in just doing a local drive sometime? Nothing too aggressive (I'm too old to die young, and it's just not worth the risk/ticket), but I'd love to take the cars out for a spin if you and some of the other area owners are up.

CB:

I'm always up for a local/regional drive event... weather permitting, of course. We are getting to that time of year that makes it much more difficult to schedule a drive with confidence weather will cooperate. The past two years, local S owners have driven to and up MT. St. Helens... decent drive with ample twisties, and not too far away. I cannot speak for others, but would enjoy doing this again... OR EVEN BETTER... you could plan a drive, post it and see what responses come your way.

Marcus:

I was planning on doing the team Continental Driver School this Saturday, as well. Any interest in hooking up before or after?

I'd be a poor person to plan any drives for the PDX crowd, as I just moved to Oregon about two months ago, and I have trouble finding the supermarket. Of course, it doesn't help that there isn't one for about 8 miles from me...

In any case, if anyone just wants to go driving one day, just PM me if the weather's nice, and I'm up for a bit of cruising around. My schedule's pretty flexible.

Hi Marcus,

I'm certainly happy to *help* with the planning. Yes, paved roads only. My only concern about group drives -- and I apologize for sounding like everyone's father -- are the issues of safety and liability. I've been on enough group drives that turned into all-out country road racing that I'll take a pass on both helping to organize and participating, if that's what people have in mind. I save "the limit" for the track. But otherwise, I'm game and happy to plan something. Call me sometime in the next week or so, and we'll talk it through.

If we can find a day with dry pavement, I'll be there ...

Well, it sounds like we may have the makings of a drive event going here....

Although stating the obvious, I'm on the same page with Geoff... I'm in only with dry pavement underneath me.

CB: I had a momentary lapse in not recalling your recent move to Portland when suggesting you plan a drive... understandable you would not want to take on such a planning task with your limited familiarity with the area. Also, though I certainly share your concern over "issues of safety and liability", the two drives I've been a part of with the same participants (both the MT. St. Helens drives mentioned before) have involved very spirited driving, but not behavior that would rise to the level of "all-out country road racing". I have found these younger guys (I, like you, am in the 40-something age group) to be excellent drivers who enjoy the aforementioned spirited driving absent the unnecessary, dangerous risk-taking.

Marcus & CB: I'll gladly assist with planning details of an upcoming drive event. Let me know if I can help in anyway.

Marcus: I'll see you this weekend for the Team Continental Driver School.

Perhaps we can coax Eric into joining us before he unloads his S... how 'bout it, Eric?!?!
