Default Anyone have experience with E39s?

Or, the BMW 5 series cars, slightly older, say 2002-03, specifically the 525 wagons or 540 wagons? I am looking for independent mechanics, known reliability issues, ownership history, would you recommend, etc. I am interested in 525 wagons (dont worry the S will stay ).

Thanks.

Sunil has or had a 5 series, but I am not sure what year it is.

Right before I bought my 2001 330 CiC I took it to Pacific Motorsports down on SE 13th and Powell, just across the Ross Island bridge. I had them do the full on mechanical check. I also know that Huy used them when he serviced his 5 series. They are a full service shop, including alignements. I really liked their professionalism, but would warn that there is usually a long line to get into an appointment.

All I know for sure about them is that I have wanted one also. Please share what you find. What I read about the 7 series from the same time was mostly poor reliability and lots of time in the shop.

Semi off topic, but I read that if you see a 3 year old or newer 7 series there is a 90+% chance it is a lease. The BMW 7 series has the highest lease rate of any car.
