August Drive
So here's the scoop everyone.
Unfortunately Ira and I have both been a bit more busy than we'd like and we havent been able to put in the hours we'd like in order to ensure a good event. This is a newer drive plan that we've never done before, so there were a lot of variables to take into account and we sadly couldnt get it pulled together how we wanted.
A couple of major hindrences:
Cost - Prime season for the peninsula means hotels are not willing to cut any group deals so the rooms are SPENDY (180+ per night). We started to look into other locations that are inland further but did not get any solid info on that option yet.
Drive route - We have a preliminary route plan that we *think* would work well, but have not been able to really go over it with a fine tooth comb or get out there to do a pre-drive run to see what the road/conditions are like
Timing/Attendance - I'll be in the process of moving to a new house that weekend so I would be unavailable for the drive. Ira has been off-and-on being totally buried with things to do too so he cant ensure being available either. Being as it's a totally new event both COs were hoping to be there to partake/assist to learn what works and what doesnt.
SO, our tentative idea was to sub in a shorter 1-day drive so we dont cancel everything completely and then revisit the Peninsula drive at a later time when we can better plan out what we want to do with that one.
Ira and I discussed it and thought the Alsea Falls drive from the Pre-planned drive list would be a good alternative (found HERE). One day, not too short, not too long and some good roads/scenery to boot. It's already planned out, the PDF is pre-made and its one that the group could run even if the COs dont make it. We would just keep this for the same Saturday, August 18th.
What do you guys think?
Feel free to discuss here and fill us in on your thoughts.
