Default Builtmore House

While I was home visiting the folks we made the drive up to Asheville, NC home to, well the largest private home in the US. The house has 250 rooms and covers 175,000 square feet. The Biltmore House was built in the 1890's by Corelious Vanderbuilt. The area was so remote that a rail road was built to deliver materials to the construction site. The house had running water and air conditioning when it was completed.

Here are some of the pictures I took - they do not allow photographs to be taken inside the house so all are external shots:

Several pictures of the front of the house.

One of the many gardens - this was a temp "garden rug" only in place for 2 weeks. The pattern is supposed to look like a rug.

View of the rug garden from above - sorry but there was a screen in the way.

View from the back of the house.

Flowers in the lilly pond

No one lives there, but it is still owned by the family.
