Default Bumming w/you guys having so much fun

Shouldn't be I guess but my car is still winterized and I'm not really sure when I'll be able to pull it out of the shop though I'm hoping it will be soon.

Feb 7th I crashed my dirt bike out in the Tillamook forest, I broke my left hip, pelvis and femure in a few places, I also broke the top off the readius bone in my left wrist. Spent 10 days at Emanuel getting screwed back together, I have a rod in my femur from my hip to my knee and a plate in my wrist to attach the top of the bone back on. Missed over 2 months of work (thank god for Aetna), been back about a month now.

It was quite an experience, I've broken myself many times on my dirt bike (5 wrist fracture, broken foot, ribs, collarbone, other leg, yada yada) but nothing I couldn't walk away from or even ride back to a vehicle. Not this time, I layed on the ground for 50 minutes before the EMT's and ambulance showed up, fortunately I wasn't too far from a road and we had cell coverage (there were 5 of us riding that day). I found my '10' for pain, I've NEVER hurt like that before, heck my wrist was way deformed but it really didn't even bother me compared to my lower extremity. I also cut my right index finger pretty good.

I have 19 month old twins at home and my wife was supposed to have surgery on
her neck from years of cutting meat which of course had to be put off so she could take care of me and the twins. I felt BAD for her, she's a heck of a woman and didn't complain at all, she didn't even want me to get rid of my bike (she knows that's asking too much) and we're not youngsters anymore, she turned 50 last Nov. For the 1st month at home she had to bath me, feed me, help me move, put on cloths, everything, gosh just going back over it makes me appreciate her even more.

Needless to say I haven't been able to use a clutch since, I don't even like going in the shop to look at the car. Fortunately I'm getting much better and am just using a cane currently so I would think within the next couple of weeks I can start de-winterizing it.

Sorry so long, just feeling a little sorry for myself this morning, I'll get over it

Now THAT is a good crash! Femurs take a LOT of force to break!

Sorry to hear about the accident, very glad to hear you're making a recovery. Be fortunate it's not worse! 1) you're able to walk, a spinal injury could very easily been added to your list. 2) Femurs can bleed a LOT as can your pelvis, not to mention the nice big femoral arteries and veins in that area. That 50 minute response time could have lead to very very bad things.

I can tell this whole event is hitting you hard, but these things happen. Just take it easy and let your body recover. This could be a great time to spend more time with your wife and kids. I'm sure you'll be back behind the wheel soon enough, don't worry... It's not even summer yet!

Yeah, your right, I'm very fortunate it wasn't worse, trees are very hard

It's just getting to me a bit as I'm pretty active and the weathers been looking better and I have things to do and, well, you get the picture.

It has been nice to spend so much time w/the kids although that was really frustrating for a while (still is to some degree) as I couldn't really engage in any activities w/them. It's interesting that they seem to know that Dad's really hurt and can't do alot (I suppose it was pretty obvious) so they were really easy on me until I could start doing more. Pretty intuitive for lil ones.

thanks again for your thoughts
