Default Gears

Ive tossed the idea around a few times in the past, and have recently come back to it. Im on the fence about getting a 4.77 FD.
For me it really remains the last major $$ mod that I will do to the car mechanically. I have no intention of FI, and given how much positive feedback there is saying its the best "bang 4 the buck" NA mod its really appealing to me.

Hard part for me is everytime i read someones intial review saying its wonderfull theres always the "its terrible hwy" and "it doesnt make the car faster" replys.

I know Heip(sorry if i miss spelled your name) has/had them. Does anyone else have this done around here?

Whats everyones honest opinion on them?

Help me decide.

i sold mine a while back in that second part out and we installed it into aahrons car. which was that silverstone that wrecked and went through auction, i am curious as to where that set went. it has the reinforced housing, and cryo treatment. the gears really depend on what you plan to do with the car, i really liked mine, i believe aahron felt that same way. i think john at forged runs some, but i dont know of anyone else.

My diff consist of a 4.44 gear, OS Giken 1.5 LSD in an reinforced diff. I will say that the one thing that you will notice is that the power is more "usuable" on the streets. The car "feels" as if it has more torque. With the 4.44 gears in 6th gear I'm at about 4k rpm at 60mph.

I also had a set of 4.44 gears with my old supercharged AP1, and it helped the car take off the line til supercharger would take over.

I have no regrets with my choice of gears. If you're staying NA then gears is a good choice. Brian (S20004ME_PDX) has some 4.3 gears. Even though now he's turbo he can tell you what he thinks when he had it with his supercharger.

There's a video from Hot Version International that had a race between an stock AP1, AP2, and a modified (I/H/E) with 4.3 AP1. Although it may not be as dramatic but gives you an idea.

Ive seen that video a few times now, still love the shortcuts. Lol. Ive contacted puddy mod, his prices for a diff w/steel sleeve and cryo'd parts are very reasonable. I think its only a matter of time now. Thanks guys.

You'll be very satisfied with Ben at Puddy Mod. His work and customer service is excellent.

4.77's are on my short list as well. It's true gears dont add power, but they do make the car quicker by making the power usable. Are you going to add a LSD into the mix or just do the gears, Chris?

Gears with steel sleeve and reinforced hardware. All cryo treated. No LSD. I still don't plan to launch the car but I figure do it once and do it right. All the above will make it stronger than oem and considering my driving patterns I doubt ill ever break an oem diff.

Launching will definitely break it.
