Default moving to portland area

hey portlandites,

i am going to be moving to the portland area and am currently looking for homes/condos. i'd like to take advantage of this opportunity to move and try to move into a highrise condo/townhouse if possible. perhaps even an apartment.

the only area i've heard about is the pearl district. is this a good place to move to? i work for intel and i heard about the Max? a light rail train that i could take to work from downtown portland.

anyways, any and all help will be greatly appreciated. thanks guys.

Pearl Dist, is the current hip place to be in portland. Its not bad if thats what your price ranage allows.

I have a few friends that bought brand new apartments there as an investment which I can put you in touch with if you are interested.

As for Max, you'd have to catch a bus or the portland in-town carts and then transfer to the Max from there. I'd say if you work at any of the Hillsboro Intel campus, you are looking at a 45-1hr commute one way.

There's also lots of brand new town houses building within the 3 intel campus (JF, HF, RA), priced around 250-300K for a 1400sq space, which I think its a better bargin for the dollar in the current market.

Good luck with your decision!

this baffles me, you can still get a nice home with a yard for that!

First question I would have to ask before answering yours is where you are going to be working?

There are some commutes that are a lot nicer than others and the worst ones make the exercise of avoidance planning worthwhile .

thanks for everyone's help.

i wanted to move into downtown portland, into a high rise condo. i feel like this is the last opportunity in my life to do something like that before i get married, have kids, etc.

but... relocation fell through and i won't be moving to portland in the near future. perhaps mid-2007.

i'd be working in hillsboro @ Intel. i heard the commute time by Max would vary but 45m is the norm. allegedly.

I think a trip to Portland is in order!

Yes, the downtown Portland to Hillsboro MAX commute is about 45 minutes. But there may not be any of the high-rise condos you are looking for along the MAX line downtown. So, you have to factor in getting from your condo to and from the light rail line.

Then you also need to know which Intel campus you would be working at in Hillsboro. Some are not on the MAX line, so you would have to figure out how to get from the MAX station to your campus.

good points, larry.

i'd be working in JF3. some of my coworkers moved from hillsboro to folsom, and they told me about the MAX and its close proximity to Jones Farms, which in turn told me to live in downtown portland vs. the "Intel ghetto of hillsboro"

i was looking at the benson tower, which isn't close to the pearl i found out. those condos look pretty nice, and won't be ready until april 07 (which might be good timing for me). 23rd floor.

On the issue of getting from the MAX to JF3, there is an Intel shuttle that travels from the local stations to the different campuses. Look up the JF campus on Circuit and it should provide a map and a shuttle listing for you.

FYI, I am an ex-Intelite, just quit this week from F20. I can provide some info for you about the local area, just PM me.
