Need help buying a GPS
Hello Everybody!
After many, many times of me the "directionally challenged" getting lost, I've decided that it's time to buy a portable GPS.
(If you haven't heard, it is true that I have driven to Vancouver while trying to find a hair salon in Portland
)
After looking at all of the options I have found that these two fit what I am looking for:
Garmin Nuvi 1300 - I like this one better just because it has a "pedestrian mode" so that I can't get lost while walking around town
Dimensions: 4.8"W x 2.9"H x .6"D

Garmin Nuvi 265WT
Dimensions: 4.8"W x 2.9"H x .8"D

They both basically have the same features, except the 265WT offers Blue Tooth, Speed limit indicator (displays speed limit for most major roads), and Life Time Traffic, while the 1300 offers the pedestrian mode where you can locate bus routes, subways, etc.
The main features they do have that I was looking for in a GPS are: speaks street names (e.g. "Turn right ON ELM STREET in 500 ft."), voice prompts (e.g. "Turn right in 500 ft."), auto re-route (fast off-route and detour recalculation), choice of route setup (faster time, shorter distance, off road), and I like how they can show what restaurants/fuel/etc. are in the area that you are in.
Please share your opinions! If you have other suggestions for a portable GPS please share them!
Thank you!!!
Monica

I have the Nuvi 760 (Marc has the same unit).
THey are great and really have no downside.
The only thing I've read about the Nuvi 265T (and all of their units with the T designation) is that while the traffic information is "free" for life (or until the service they use goes out of business) you have to put up with ads! Yes, advertising right on your GPS. That's the price you pay for the free traffic info.
What you might do is to go to Amazon.com and look at the various GPS models. Then read the reviews at the bottom of the page. You can pick up a lot of good (and bad) about an item this way.
Between the two I wouild lean toward the one that will keep you from getting lost in the mall!

I have GPS built into my phone.

Not as fancy, but it has spoken turn-by-turn, is still touchscreen (but smaller) and works for me for "free" with no ads (just gotta pay the monthly cell bill)

Thanks for the info! I will be spending a lot of time on Amazon.com
I couldn't find any reviews on the nuvi 1300, but I did found out why I couldn't find any! It doesn't come out until June 28th...

I haev the 265WT. It is available at Costco for a decent price. I like it. The ads are a little strange, but tolerable. The real time traffic is sometimes delayed so by the time you get the info, you are too close to avoid it. All in all it is a great unit. There are som features that I liked on my old unit more then the 265 like the clock, but I can love with that.
