Default New Garmin add-on

...
Garmin is due to introduce a new gizmo/feature to their upper line of GPS units:

...
"The ESP module is a hideaway box that connects to (and is powered by) your vehicle's OBD-II diagnostics port. The device gathers information about your vehicle's performance and relays that info via a Bluetooth data connection to your Garmin Nuvi GPS device atop your dashboard."

.........

"Using the Nuvi's touch screen, users can view a set of customizable gauges, view and clear fault codes when the Check Engine light comes on, and monitor real-time fuel economy and emissions data. The unit also provides data logging for users who want to track their performance and interfaces with the EcoRoutes software that's already present on current Garmin devices.”

.........

"As the EcoRoute name indicates, the information can be used to help maximize fuel efficiency, but it can also be handily adopted by enthusiasts to display information such as turbocharger boost pressure, throttle input, intake air temperature and more."

...
"It works by tucking the ESP unit up under the dashboard and connection to the Nuvi unit via Bluetooth to relay the data. It's capable of logging data on any measurable OBD II parameter, making its potential uses almost limitless.”

...

Note that it can also reset your codes! Who needs a Scangauge?

Unfortunately these features are only available on Garmin's more expensive 1xxxx series GPS devices.

Still......

I have used a CarChip OBD logger for many years. I records all the same data for later display via PC... it was a great track tool. I don't know if they are still available but it was inexpensive and provides a good record of all activities (any time I let someone else use the car I have a record of every rev recorded every five seconds).

I pre-ordered the ecoRoute HD module months ago and finally got it in last week. It's a nice alternative to the scanguage as there isn't another visible gadget to install in the car plus it tracks efficiency for all planned routes in addition to overall efficiency.

Did anyone ever end up getting the ecoRoute HD module as well? I'm seeing a questionable reading on the engine load gauge and wanted to compare notes.

EDIT: A nice German fellow cleared up the "questionable reading" on the engine load gauge. It was a failure to understand the meaning of the reading on my part. The load appears to drop as revs increase, but it's not the load that drops but an increase in the power produced that is being reflected by the gauge.
