Spring 2008
I think I'd like to make this trip, was going to try for the gorge trip but had to dog sit and the car wasn't 'quite' ready (not that it ever will be). I'll probably just wait for the group out at Staley's (26/47 junction) and follow out to Longview and head back home from there. I probably should bring up the rear as my Ultimate Race dual 3" is a bit....mmm...rumbly
.
Looking forward to a trip through my stomping grounds.......s/b fun. One of these days some of you will have to 'discover' hwy 47 over the hill from Mist to Clatskanie, I think there may be one 1/4 mile straight in 12 miles, fun road.

I made this same drive (Oregon side only) back in April. It is a blast to drive. There is a section of about 10 miles or so that needs to be repaved, but the rest is in good condition.

This picture was take at the location of our 1st bio break. That was about 1/3 of the Elk that were roaming arround when I was there.

We did that stretch 2 years ago. Incredibly windy, with lots of blind/rising and blind/falling curves. I think it scared a few people, we haven't been back that way since. I really wanted to go that way, but they way we are going is going to be fun to!
I do the Clatskanie Mt section on 47 pretty regularly as Clatskanie is the closest 'podunk'. I've known some poeple who've gone off that section too, those 3 back to back 20 mph corners can get tricky, especially in the winter but I love it when it's nice. You don't even have to rail it to have fun slinging the S thru the twistys. I would recomend caution to anyone unfamiliar with it though if your trying to be a hero, like I said I know a couple guys who've gone off, it's a long way back up the hill to the road.
