Started looking at S2000
hi. I do not have a S2000. Never had one.
I am having a lot of fun autocrossing this year and I am very interested in S2000. It will be my only car if I buy one so I will have to use it for daily commuting as well.
I used to have a NA Miata so I am used to noisy small cars.
I am looking at s2000's that are $15K and below. I don't know whether I want AP1 or AP2.
How reliable are these cars as daily driver and autoX machine?
I will talk to S2000 guys at autoX when I see one next time but I have not had a chance yet.
Thx.

That dealer will try to squeeze $22K+ out of you for that 04 with low miles. Your $15K budget should be plenty to get you into a decent S with mileage in the 50-60s. Don't get too hung up on AP1 v AP2. Much of the change centered around controlling oversteer behavior to stop people who thought they were Niki Lauda trapped in a Gomer Pyle body from killing themselves. For someone with enough autoX experience, I doubt that would matter too much. Search on!
I've used my S for a daily driver every day for the last 5 years. Its a AP1 with 77k on the clock. Still looks good and brings a smile to my face every day I drive it. Gets pretty decent mileage too for a sports car. Maintenance hasn't been any different then with the Civic I had before the S. Normal wear and tear. Just brakes, tires, oil changes, and a wheel bearing. Nothing major to report. Haven't done anything to the engine but the spark plugs and a Timing Chain Tensioner and that was just for maintenance reasons. I've put more into it with modifications than anything else. Bolt on mods don't help too awful much on these cars by the way. Just find a nice exhaust and a CAI and call it a day. Oh and the alignment settings on these cars a fully adjustable so you can have fun playing with camber and what not for AutoX. S2k's are known for the handling abilities so you should be happy. Good Luck

What club do you autocross with???
I recomend an ap2. That's coming from a guy who has had two f20c motors die in his car. I have a f22c now and it much better feeling all around and I belive it's much more reliable.
If you do decide to get an ap1 get one with a glass back window.

I am going to go to the Eugene one this Saturday and SCCA #4 at PIR on Sunday. I was going to also stop by the dealer in Salem to look at a 2004 S2000 after the autoX on Sat.
That car is over my budget but since it is on my way home...
