Investment information comes on a different schedule than employment data. It is usually out by March 1 but different brokerage firms often get a waiver from the IRS to be even later.

I'm one of the only ones out of all my friends who DIDN'T end up owing state.
Many years ago I would claim 9 dependants to eliminate withholding and just pay in April, but that is against the regulations now. Even today if I get a refund I feel that I have screwed up by paying too much before it is due.
Interest on savings is (or almost) nothing today but the flexibility of having your own funds until you have to release them is worth something.
