What a guy
The bad news: I just spent four days at Kaiser Sunnyside Hospital because of a ruptured appendix. The good news: I knew Huy works there as an ER nurse.
When I got settled in to the ER, I asked one of the techs if Huy was working that day. He said yes, he'd be coming in soon. I told him to tell Huy that his good friend Jim was a patient. I suspected Huy would have no idea who the hell Jim was. He came into my room later and said something like, "Oh - it's JIM Jim."
Huy talked with me for a few minutes - then came back later, sat down, and spent some time with me. He also visited me a couple of days later in my room (in the Oncology ward, of all places!). He brought a card and a little gift. He even offered to help me at home this weekend if they discharged me and I needed anything. Really, truly: WHAT A GUY!
It's funny how we think of each other in the S2K Oregon Group. I see a lot of you as friends - but you're not on my "friends" list because you're on my "S2K friends" list. (I don't know if you all tend to keep those separate the way I do.) It's a fresh revelation to me that at some point those lists are the same. I could probably call on you for Help In Dire Circumstances, too. That's comforting. This may not be a club, but it's much more than a club.

Hi Jim,
I hope you're well on your way to recovery. As I have said time and time again, this S2ki thing is amazing, we gather together here because of a common car, but in the end it's not about the car at all, it's about the camaraderie and friendship. I consider you guys some of my closest friends...but then again, who else can understand this obsession that I have with my car? Everyone else thinks I cuckoo
Yay for Huy! He's a hero.

Hi Jim,
I thought things got awfully quiet from you there for a while!
We hope you have swift recovery! Huy didn't use Fix-A-Flat on you did he?
I hear that stuff is pretty tough to clean up!
To Huy for a job well done!
