Why Honda S2000?
Why did you pick the Honda S2000? We all did, but I bet we have different reasons.
I bought my S2000 because I like Honda's build quality, reliability, style, and general reputation. But I picked the S2000 over things like a 350Z convertible, Z4, Mustang GT convertible, etc, because I like what the S2000 was built for more than the others. Launch speed and straight line racing aren't concerns of mine - I prefer to go quickly through the curves, and do so in style. It's also nice that the S2000 gets better gas mileage than just about every other sports car in its group
So how about you?

In late 1999 I drove a 95' Integra LS Vtech with all the standard exhaust, intake, wheels, dumped to the ground. You know the classic integra of the day.
One night I was driving down Mill Plain in Vancouver, WA and I saw some head lights behind me that "looked cool". I was into cars a little bit at the time but I only knew about cars that my friends had. I did not research cars and had no idea what new cars were out on the market.
Anyways, I slow down to let the car catch up to me. I am not going to lie. I wanted to race whatever car it was
It pulled up next to me and of course it was an S2000. I had never seen one before and I was interested in what it was. I asked the guy "Hey, nice car. What is it?"
In response he said "It's an S200" <--No this is not a mis type. He called it an S two-hundred. I asked him if it was fast and right then the light turned green and he took off.
I caught up to him at the next light and asked him if I could take a closer look. He then pulled over and let me take a look in the Fred Meyer parking lot.
The rest is pretty much history. I saved and knew that this would be my next car. It was not my next car as I bought a 97' CL after the Integra but I did get the S after the CL
Sorry for the long story but you asked for it

My family has always been into Hondas. My dad has always loved the S2000 too so i kinda knew about it. I was finally making enough money to buy a newer car so i had bought an Element then the summer came and i realized I wanted a sports car. I finally chose the S mainly because the interior. a lot of the cars that were in my price range were good looking but the interiors were crap! So i guess that's basically why i'm now in the S.

2) its a honda. reliability and build quality is on the nail
3) i dont realy like the Z4, i didnt want a brick (mustang), s2k>350z
4) i have a strait line toy already and i too wanted something that was fun in the curves.
5) i LOVED the feeling of WEARING the car rather then just sitting in it
6) its only of the only convertables i like
7) i sold my b16 hatch and knew i wanted to keep the high rpm vtec fun
Always loved Hondas. Used to own a 01 Prelude that had suspension stuff done and I thought it was a great handling car, until I took a 03 for a drive. I knew the salesperson and he let me take it for a long time (40 mile drive)
. When I returned, I knew I wanted one but could not afford one yet. Waited a year and then got a preowned 02 in 04. I go through cars quite often (S is 10th car in last 16 yrs) and after owning the S for almost 4 years and doing small mods to it and learning how to drive it better, I love it more than when I bought it.
I know the S loses the hp war now, but no matter what, it is an amazing car that Honda built for us.

I had sort of lost the love of driving, this from someone who used to average 35-40k miles a year. My TSX was a good car to go on a trip in, but it was not fun to drive. Before my TSX I had an RSX Type S and loved it. I loved the high reving when you needed / wanted it, and the good mpg when you needed it. I sold my TSX and got a SC400 to be my normal car. I still missed having a car taht was fun to drive, so I started looking into my options. I wanted a fun car, was not going to be my DD. I did want it to be a little rare so I made a list of the cars I would like to have......
I have listed the negatives to each car on the list
MR2 - hard to find, expensive most all are trashed
FC RX-7 - had 2 before and loved one of them - but ones in decent condition are hard to find and overpriced
90's Supra - nice looking - way overpriced - thanks to damn F&F movie
90's 300zx - nice looking - most all are trashed
FD RX-7 overpriced and most all are trashed
350Z - interior is crap and I never really fell in love with the looks.
Audi TT - just didn't do it for me - and I hate VW (who owns audi)
RSX-S - about the same price as the S.
S2000 - ummm it has a small trunk and not much storage space - that is really all I could come up with for a negative to the S.
I drove one and fell in love and now I have one!
So I have a car that is fun to drive, you don't see all that often, and was not overpriced for what you get. Also the super Honda reliability and a motor that spins to 9k !
Sorry for the really long story.

I bought an S2000 because my husband had been obsessing/dreaming/saving for one for about 5 years. I graduated from grad school and started working (aka mad cash)
so I told him we were going to get his blue car. I found the car--on ebay no less--and bought it from a dude over the phone. The rest is convertible history.

It all started when I was about 5 years old and my dad asking me what kind of car I would want (he was a car lover). I told him a sports car, and he asked me where I would put my friends if I had more than one...I told him that I would own a sports car and a big car.
Over the years my dad owned many cars, I have always loved the little sports car best, but never had the opportunity to own one.
Then in 1999 I saw a picture of a S2000 and instantly I knew I had to have one. My dad had passed by that time, so I went to my dad's trusted friend and asked him what he thought of it, he said that I couldn't go wrong with a Honda, but it's the first year they came out, so wait.
I hung that picture over my desk for a year, then called my dad's friend and asked him again if I should buy one...he said no, wait. And when the 2002 model came out, he said now it's the time to buy, so I went and test drove one and also test drove an Audi TT, BMW Z3, and a Porsche Boxster. I like the S2000 best and the rest is history.
I looked at that picture over my desk for 3 years and still wanted the car 3 years later, so I figure I deserved it and bought myself a Valentine's Day present.

I bought the S because I wanted a convertible. Hah! You KNOW that's not true....
I really enjoyed my sport-y cars - Integra GSR, RSX Type S - but never had a true sports car. Last fall the advent of my 60th birthday compelled me to go for it. Retail Therapy!
I had been totally spoiled by the quality of Acura and Honda products. I briefly looked around at other cars, but the S2000 was the only real choice for me.
What I like SECOND about the S2000: Honda reliability, the wonderful balance, the tight handling, the acceleration - with its VTEC adrenalin rush at the ready.
What I like MOST OF ALL about the S2000: That sweet smooth shifter - the best on the market. (Once I went for a test run in a WRX. The shifter felt like something on a freakin' truck!) Yes, I LOVE MY STICK - Freudian associations aside. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, you know.

It's amazing now that I think about it. Its been almost 10 years ago when I feel in love with the whole concept and philosophy of this car.
I still have the original 'Car & Driver' and 'Road and Track' issues back in early 1999 when they first introduced the S2000 concept as well as the red 'demo' car to the world. The editors from these large magazine companies had to fly out to Japan in order to be the first group of people outside of Japan to test drive the car. Ever since I read that, I knew this was the car I wanted to check out and test drive as soon as I comes to the show rooms. Then after I actually test drove it for the first time in early 2000, rest is history. (Even though I own a 01, but I still continue to test drive each year)
As for the reasons for picking. I'm in complete agreement with pretty much most of what everyone has already listed. But the main reason for me is: S2000 is one of the few cars out in the $30K market that we could call it a pure Sports car:
It was designed by Honda to use for Racing first, then regular road after; not the other way around like most other sports cars in same class. Both our Engine and chassis is unique only to the S2000, no cross platform sharing. For the uniqueness and price range, it was a no brainer for me.
