MCO Autocross Schedule Released
I copied and pasted from the MCO forums. The school and (pardon the politically uncorrect) "ricers off the street" event are before the season. The school is a bargin to get "parking lot" time driving. Also, there are 2 ProSolo, drag style side by side competition.
Ottawa autocross has never been as good. Fun not hardcore competitive and expect 6+ runs in a big course at the Corel Center. Don't say I didn't give everybody enough warning!
[edit] Forgot. CMP = Calabogie Motorsports Park. MCO a Solo1 weekend and probably an attached lapping day at Calabogie. It will be affordable (last year was around $150). I'll probably get the required Solo1 rollbar for this.

I was all gung-ho for this then I read Fritz's story on the MCO board, now I'm on the edge

Basically, don't make a claim and the insurance company will be OK with getting their premium. Sucks when responsible motosport participation is RISKIER than being a street racer.
Yes I agree partly, I was kind of worried about modding having heard all the stories, but my agent is ok with it, no mention anywhere in the documentation and such.
Yes if you don't claim, it will be OK, but if something were to happen on the street and I did claim, I certainly would not want to be on facility insurance. Ask D'Arcy what he's paying it's NOT pretty, more than triple my payment for only the summer months ??????????
We'll see, I did want to try it, the insurance thing has me on the edge, but I will probably still try it. The other issue right now is saving the $30k just to buy the car, I know solo 2 isn't that expensive but I can't burn through the tires until after I get my car safetied
What's with that Control school anyways? What's the cost? I believe you told me before it was good, but that just doing a few auto-x's would be as good anyways.

If you are on street tires, you really don't have much additional wear, especially compared to going to the track. Apparently the Corel Center parking lot is "slippery" and is easy on tires. It's a bathtub curve with experience. Novices always going sideways, skidding and spinning tires are slow and burn the tires. Intermediate learn to drive smooth to be fast and don't overload the tires. Experts know how to always be at the limit of traction all the time and start using up all the tire for max. performance. If I had to pull a number out of my ass, a MCO autocross is probably equal to a about 100-200 km of wear and the type of wear that will balance the wear pattern on daily driving tires. The outside edge and fronts wear, the opposite of daily driving...hell its just like tire rotation.
The school is around $75 for MCO members, $100 for non-members. Equivalent to 2-3 autocrosses. It is excellent if you never had performance driving instruction. You learn more and get fast quicker than in 3 autocrosses. To give you an idea, my first year I was about 15% slower than FTD (Fastest Time of the Day). After the mid-season school I was only 10% slower. Once you know the basics and are half decent at analysing your own driving you benefit more from doing the timed autocrosses and picking stuff up from veteran tips.
Also, say a typical autocross is 6 one minute runs. So, 3 autocrosses = 18 minutes of seat time. The school you will have around 2 hours of seat time with instructor. Now it is a school so there is a bunch of skills exercises which is very good at building SKILLS. There is a mini-autocross at the end.

Updated schedule. Also, there are actually worthy door prizes from sponsors for the after event dinner this year.

Some bad news - The Corel Center pulled the last 4 dates in our schedule. Of the 4 were a regular series event, a Pro Solo and the 2 Regional dates we had planned. As a result, I decided to cancel the MCO Pro Solo series and the SPDA decided to keep their date but move it to another venue outside Ottawa.
Some good news - We were able to salvage the MCO Solo II series by using one of the Pro Solo dates and adding another point scoring road trip. Regional Solo II director Wes Tanney and the HADA, graciously swapped dates with us so we could host a Regional Solo II event in Ottawa on August 14th. The MCO Executive agreed to provide two very special door prizes: 1 free entry to the MCO Performance Driving School held at Shannonville Motorsport Park on July 2-3rd and 1 free entry to the MCO Lapping Day at Calabogie Motorsports Park on August 19th.

One of them is completely bald on the outside edge
$40 to get them flipped around, I'm not going to bother.
