Default Suspension/Intake Recommendations

Since the guy selling the LMs bailed on me, I'm gonna turn my attention to my suspension and an intake, then shop for wheels during the winter.

What suspension setup do you guys recommend. It's mostly for the look and street use, but who knows maybe I am going to turn into an auto-x monster I really have no idea about spring rates, dampening etc.

I was also looking at various intakes, Mugen specifically. But after reading all the reviews about the PasswordJDM intake, it looks like it may be better value for the money (plus no hood cut). Are there others you guys would recommend? Total for the suspension/intake that I'm looking to spend will be around $2,000.

if you want a intake with prooven gains, go aem v2 or Fujita hands down, For the money, they are 100% your best bet. I can get you Fujita at near cost.

Suspension, you dont winter drive it so why not get coil overs, Ill take you for a rip in my car and you can see how she handles, I may not track it but I assure you its a easy track car how its set up.

But your best bet is to read the 1000 threads on all this junk and make your decision.

Id go with fujita intake and buddy club couls lkike me cause i can hook ya up and I am 100% happy with my car and how it rides and handles

i kinda like the password JDM stuff too. Its kinda expensive.

but you dont even have to change your hood. Looks kinda neat too. And they have dyno graphs proving some gains.

Best value for money on intake is AEM or similar style. The open filter makes a boomy resonance sound, that some people like. These intakes make power by cooler air, but mainly from a tuned pipe length. They give you a power bump (5-10 hp) around 3-4k RPM and 7k RPM. IMO these are better for street use.

The scoop type intakes get cold air and a ram air effect at high speeds. You can't dyno this, but there is a boost at highway speeds. My butt dyno says around 5-10 hp above 100 kph. They are quieter than the AEM-style. The filter gets dirty pretty quick, especially in the rain, from all the crap that gets scooped up. IMO these are better for track applications.

Suspension, if it's just for looks and the street, save your money and just get lowering springs. You can get affordable coilovers if you want more ride comfort.

If you want a performance improvement, you have to spend quite a bit of money or get application specific to get something "better" and give up ride comfort. The stock suspension is pretty damn good already. Anybody that says that "x" or "y" ajustable coilover/lowering springs that is under $2k and makes the car handle so much better has never driven close enough to the edge to know better. You can get something worthwhile under $2k setup with non-adjustable custom valved shocks and spring package, which is application specific (i.e. autocross special for R-compound tires on concrete). For adjustable coilovers worth a crap, it's $2k-$10k.

I had the Spoon intake duct/filter combo - can't say I noticed much difference, but it looked nice Oh yeah, and I sucked up a whole bird once. No, not just a feather, an entire bird.

As far as suspension, I have come to learn that if you want ultimate street performance, go Euro. Japanese suspension is stiff, minimal bump travel, and all 'round uncomfortable. Stiff doesn't mean better handling.

If you want something sweet, look into Bilstein or Ohlins.

looks like mr.bbs might be back. apologize in advance for posting in here and not the wheel rack, i just value all of your opinions more than others

but these are the offsets.

Front: 17x9 et42 w/BF Goodrich 225/45-17
Rear: 17x10 et50 w/BF Goodrich 255/40-17

kenny, i forget what you were sayin about the wheels... i know the seller says they slightly rub. i'm good at math, but have no idea about offsets!

LOo, slightly rub :S

they will rub like a fkin MOFO!

put it this way, I run 17x7.5 with 50m,m offset front with 215 45 17 and it rubs sometimes, then my rear clears 100% with my 245 tires and 63mm offset.

what he has is a aggressive offset, I hate that set up but some love it, its more a euro trend.

I assure you it would rub on stock suspension

you could roll the shit out of your front and rears to make it work

Oh well

you could also buy new tires that are 215 and 245, that should help a tad but your gonna rub, take it for what it is Rich.
