Default 15K service recommendations for the Seattle area

I'm at 13K right now. I've been calling around all local dealerships and have gotten a wide range of prices for the 15K service.

On the high side, Honda of Bellevue quoted me $300+. On the low side, Klein Honda in Everett said they'd charge me $105. I'm inclined to take it to Klein and probably will as I'm not a believer in one service being $200 better than the other - especially for maintenance service.

Anyone else have their 15K service done? Is Honda of Bellevue going above and beyond Klein's 15K service to justify its higher price (from what they told me over the phone, they do the same damn thing).

I need a 15K service as well. How about the Bellevue Acura dealer? (Just happens to be within walking distance of my office.) Also I was planning on going synthetic now too. Any comments?

The 15,000 mile service is fairly basic. While the physical service is very basic, replacement of fluids and airfilter, the important part is the inspection of the vehicle by a Honda service Technitian. I would recommend performing the physical service yourself if you would like to save cash. To put your mind at ease, I would then schedule an appointment to have the vehicle inspected at a Honda Dealership.

My two cents.

I am nearing 15k myself, however, I see no reason to do the 15k service. I see even less of a reason after hearing the price quotes. $300+ from Bellevue is pure robbery unless they are doing a lot more than is detailed in the manual. In fact the majority of this service is checks, not actual adjustments. I plan to do service at 30k, but probably not at Bellevue...

I don't think I would take an S2000 in to Klein, even for an oil change. I was in talking to them about a month ago and I don't think that they've dealt with too many or know what they are doing. They weren't aware that it's normal for an S2000 to burn some oil. So far I've had good luck at Lynnwood Honda. Just my 2 cents.

I was able to negotiate some with a Bellevue Honda service advisor (if you want to know who just PM me). He admitted that they haven't done too many 15Ks on the S2000. Tedster's the only one they've done, I believe. Maybe you can chime in here Ted.

Anyways, I've already done the differential change with the help of RT and Jerrypetersen's muscle. I'm getting the aftermarket JR Filter from Mingster. So minus those items, Bellevue's charging me a little under $90. Honda Kirkland... same thing minus the oil cuz I told them I'd bring in my own Mobil One. For that they're charging me a shade under $100.

I'm all for not spending any more money than I have to for this car that has nothing to do with "go" or "show." But Scott, I believe it's something that is necessary if you're not in the know about the S2000 or anything mechanical (that'd be me). The 15K service includes some inspections of the brake system where they actually remove the rims. They fill up all your liquids, do the oil change, and some other stuff.

Nothing's critical for the 15K, but it needs to be done by somebody - especially the way some of us drive these cars. I want peace of mind. So I'll let you all know what goes down.

Carol, thanks for your input. Hope this crappy weather's easing the S2000 withdrawal process.

WRS2K, I made my observation by what they said in the manual. As mentioned, the dealer may be doing more than that. Based on what I read in the book for normal driving, it was all checks sans the oil change work. If they are doing other fluids, great. Honda does not require it according to their schedule, however, it certainly would not hurt. Less than $100 is far more reasonable especially when this includes the oil change. Charging $300 is outrageous and, at least for the way I drive, not worth it. This is the sort of thing that gives dealers a very slimy reputation.

Best of luck.

Interesting. Kirkland quoted me $230 including fluids. Must be good fluids. I was thinking about trying an acura dealer who has done a bunch of NSX services.

They're going to quote you their full rate if you call in or just go in and ask casually.

It never hurts to be specific. I do most of the work on my car, but I still go into Bellevue Honda for oil changes and major maintaince. Build a rapport with a good service team like Bryce/Parker and you should be ok in the long run.
