A step up from the E46 M3 is not the E92 M3. Sure it's got a V8 and sure it's the new kid on the block, but it's not going to drive better to excite you in any way (at least for me).
And in many ways, from the pics I've seen, it does not look better. It does look newer with the additional bigger pieced plastics they use on the new models manufacturers are pushing out today. It's definitely not a jump like the E36 --> E46 move. Halogens to HIDs. Weak fender flares to pitbull flares. I see the E46 M3 as kinda the 993 widebody of the M3 line-up to date.
Now Simon and I both know the true upgrade is to move into 911 dry-sump territory (thx Ray
), but given Simon's baller status, F-car is on target as well.

E46 M3 is a great car, but somewhere between the E30 and the E46 the M3 stopped being a sports coupe and started being a muscle car sedan. E92 takes that farther.
