Default car update

The front frame is pretty much fixed up now. Next step on the front is the mechanical work on the steering and the right side suspension.

In the back, the rear frame rails have been cut off. The car currently ends just past the rear sway bar and trunk lid hinge. The new frame rails will be welded onto the stubs of the old ones, and then the rest of the car will be built up around them.

A question for those of you who have installed brake ducting: Is there any advantage to installing brake ducting as the fenders are being reinstalled, or is it simple enough that I should just wait and do it myself once the car is back in my hands?

Hmm... hard to answer that.

I expect it would be easier with stuff out of your way, but might be harder to tell if your hose was going to interfere with something. Does that make sense?

Yeah, makes perfect sense. But it doesn't tell me what I should do....

I guess I'll chat with the shop about the possibility. The default decision, of course, would be to just wait. Might also be best overall, because there will have to be some mechanical work done on the front steering and suspension, and the ducting might make it harder to do that.

Seems like it's something that, while more convenient to install while the car is apart, is probably better to install once it's all together again.

On a more personal note, the latest nasty rumor is that my car will be back in my grubby hands by Friday or Saturday.

Glad to hear it, though of course from my perspective that is not "on a more personal note". When's the next track day?

I'm signed up for an HPDE on June 25, but I doubt I'll make that. Now hoping to have the car ready to go by July 6, when Proformance has a lapping day scheduled.

I'm not sure when I'll be out on the track again. The cost of the motor kinda ate into my track fund...but I WILL be at Spokane in October for sure!

Hopefully something sooner, though...

Brant,

Do you think you can make it out to the next IRDC lapping day? It's like $40 or something...

Do you autocross as well? That is something to scratch the track bug on a budget.

Hi Ananda,

You have my attention now. $40?
When and where?

I don't know when the next lapping day occurs.

JHill usually lets us know... There might be more info on their website.

We did one not too long ago at Bremerton. It was a hell of time, especially when it rained on the VHT!

The PCA deliberately watered down the VHT when they set up their handling oval on it at their novice day. Cars were going every which direction as they tried to apply power coming out of a sweeper.
