Default clutch help please

I noticed my clutch pedal feeling light yesterday, checked the fluid and it was exteremely low. Added a little DOT 3and4 today, took it for a test drive and noticed more problems. Also, even with pumping the pedal it did not get tight again, do I need to bleed the lines?

The shifter rattles when shifting now, or moving it; the clutch engages extremely quickly and hard when redlining, and there seems to be a whine from the tranny, but not sure.

The car is an 02 with 82,000 miles, had it for about 10,000 never replaced the clutch but felt like an aftermarket as I had driven a stock one before. Changed tranny and diff fluids couple months back too.

I have thought the clutch has been slipping when redlining previously, there was a delay before it would engage going from 2nd to 3rd sometimes.

Sorry for the long post, but any help would be greatly appreciated.

-Alex

Check your slave cylinder, clutch master and clutch lines and see if you have any leaks.

Hydraulic system is closed .... So if you had to add fluid there is a leak some where.
All your other crazy stuff can not be properly sorted until the leaking component is identified and fixed. Then bleed the line and see what's still up (my guess is nothing else is wrong, hopefully)

BTW, the pedal feel is off due to not bleeding like you suspected but don't bother since you have a bad piston seal that you need to fix first.

thanks for the responses. i read some old posts about people having the same problem, and have formed an idea. I've read that under hard driving some fluid will leak out of the master cylinder. i drive hard quite often, and the level has been at the MIN for months (i know, i feel bad about not filling, but i keep forgetting). My thought is maybe just enough leaked out while driving hard (from the sloshing of the liquid as i read about) to screw up my pedal feel.

i am searching for the diy for clutch bleeding and anxiously hoping this will solve my problem. if anyone has any advice, please let me know. again thanks a lot, i get very worried when things are wrong with my hondas.

EDIT: does anyone have a link to the DIY for clutch bleeding? I can't find it and i've been searching for quite a while.

It should. However how long it stays "fixed" will depend upon the size of the leak. Adding clutch fluid to the resivoir every week for two years plus years, seen it, done it, been there style.

Find the leak first. Adding fluid will not fix your leaking clutch system. You'll just get a spongy clutch sooner or later.
