failed emissions
hey everyone.
i failed emissions recently and i need some help. the car is carbed and its an 89 2dr 4wd 5spd subaru justy and it failed at cruise in the carbon monoxide category. it was 3.6 where it should ahve been 1.6% or lower. i threw in a bottle of heet and tried it again and it knocked .5% off.
any idea how to adjust the mixture at cruise? i think its running rich. also i replaced teh o2 sensor after failing the second time and havent yet retested. I think it might be a metering needle stuck or soemthing. also the timing is wicked advanced but it seems to run just fine and has never knocked. but i think thats cause its running so rich the previous owner got away with it.
lemme know what you think

how does your exhaust smell? if it has a gut wrenching odor then you would must likely need to replace your cat. the o2 sensor couldve done the trick though. from reading your post i assume that your engine is not stock, what modifications are there?
When you say carbed, you saying it's not fuel injected right (not TB injection or some wackiness)?
Remove the air filter element and it should lean it out some. Sounds like there's no worry about going too lean, so just make sure it still idles w/o missing after removing the air filter or you'll flunk the HC's.
.... and don't forget to put the airfilter back in later
