fiberlay in seattle
i was driving in highway 99 last night and saw this one place called fiberlay. anyone know what that store is about? hopefully can get some custom made carbon fiber or fiberglass materials?
Yeah, I know exactly what it's about. My dad (propnuts) and I build hydroplanes and use a lot of composite materials. We have gotten fiberglass and carbon fiber from fiberlay before. They seam to have reasonable enough prices on that stuff (though its all expensive). Also we have recently switched brands on our epoxy/ resin. This is because the fiberlay stuff was really tempermental. If you didn't have the mix EXACTLY right it would set up, and if there was any moisture in the air it would set up a white color instead of clear. (and keep in mind we live in Seattle). What we have now and I would reccomend to anyone is West System epoxy, its a bit pricey but it hasn't given us any trouble at all.
Just my 2 cents.

A big second for the West System. I have been using that for years to make changes to my sailboat, and it sets up very nicely, even when the temp gets below 60F. Well worth the price, just wash it well between coats if you take more than 12 hours. (amine blush)
I tried a gallon of the fiberlay stuff a few years back, and didn't like it. I think it was polyester resin, and not epoxy, BTW.
