Default Good places to drive to this time of year?

I was thinking Leavenworth, but come to find out it's got a bunch of snow on it.

I'm thinking someplace not as far then from the Greater Seattle Metro. Any recommendations? Doesn't necessarily have to have awesome Crazy Drive type backgroads, but not averse to it either.

Just want a good destination place worth going to and then driving back.

Drive up to Mt. Vernon, over to Fidalgo Island, across Deception Pass to Whidbey Island, and then take the ferry back from Clinton to Mukilteo.

Or for a longer drive, take the ferry from Whidbey Island to Port Townsend, and drive back along Hood Canal.

Mike, that actually sounds like a lot of fun.

Do you have a mapquest route link handy?

No, sorry.

Remember to check the ferry schedules before you go. I prefer the loop in the direction(s) I described.

That is a really nice drive. About the only nice drive this time of year. La Conner is a nice detour on that route as well. If you want a short, fun detour, get off at exit 208 and head WEST. Follow that road through Silvana, and up to Stannwood. That's Pioneer Highway. A short little road side detour with a high speed limit and GREAT asphalt. Only downfall is it's hard to pass if you get stuck behind someone.

For some reason I can't link the directions. Odd...

So that exti 208... is that the route through La Conner hugging the Sound up to 20 to which the road then goes over to Fidalgo?

It looks like the ferry rolls through every half hour so we're good - thx for looking out though

Seeing I just moved here, I have no idea where any of the fun roads are.
I assume there are tons of awesome roads in Washington and Oregon, but the weather hasn't really been nice enough for super-fun driving.
I've already tried to have a bit of fun and nearly ended up pointing in the direction I came because the tires were just too cold.
I hope you guys have lots of fun group drives this spring/summer to renew my faith in the S2000. Using my S as a daily driver and carpool mobile in the city has been excruciating...It has taken so many hits. It will need some paint work and new rims for sure.

So on the way is there a cool lunch spot (i.e. restaurants) with some vistas? Say in Fidalgo or elsewhere?
