So I guess after reading the instructions (who does that anyway???) it appears the subharness isn't used on 02 and up right? Anyway, I'm up to putting the panels w/ the new brushes back on the car, assuming the subharness isn't needed. I'll finish up tomorrow and post some pics.

So the top is on and secured but I'm not sure where to plug the defroster into. the connector from it is 4 wire but the only open connector I see behind the driver seat is 3 wire. The hardtop is for a 200-2001 so that may be my problem. Jerry if you're reading this can you call me? I wonder if we just need to swap out the defroster wiring from your white one (from an 04) to mine.

no that shouldn't be the case. if you have the install from a 00-01, there is a wire that you just won't use. yours should already be wired for it.

I've got some hardtop wiring i bought to try and wire my softtop defroster just chilling at home. If your wiring and Jerry's wiring don't work, I can take pics and see if what I have'll work for you. LMK. I'll be up there this weekend and can deliver if it comes to it.

So does the defroster unplug from the car and you use that plug for the hardtop? I'm going to go do some more investigating in a few minutes.

So after looking at this again here is the situation. The defroster wiring from the hard top is a 3 pin male plug. That will not plug into the 3 pin plug on the body harness. It will plug into the 3 pin connector on the subharness (that according to the install directions is not used). There is a 2 pin plug on the side catcher that plugs into the subharness as well. The other end of this subharness is a 4 pin plug that obviously doesn't go to the 3 pin plug on the body harness.

What I can't figure out is how this subharness worked on SunD's car but not on mine. Perhaps 04's had a different body harness plug that allowed the 4 pin end on the subharness to fit.

If someone more experienced w/ HT's wants to meet up and check this out I'd come to you and buy you a beer (or 4) Friday evening after work.
