Years ago, your odds would be great. These days I don't think I'd try it.

Were you born in King County? If so, you can just go downtown and get a new b/c. Otherwise, call the Customs folks and see what they say.

But I know SS card and DL are not considered proof of citizenship.

Actually, the worst that can happen is Canada lets you in but the USA doesn't let you come back.

The passport is proof of ID and proof of citizenship. The DL is proof of ID but not citizenship.. The b/c is proof of citizenship, but not ID. The SS is proof of nothing -- they are too easy to get and to fake.

If I had to, I would grab some utility bills that show your name and address, a voter registration card, the SS card, and anything else I could find. Then hope you get a friendly border agent.

Sounds good. Just be polite and leave yourself a lot of extra time, then. Have a good trip.

Funny. I went there last winter with a passport and a drivers license. I guess nowadays they want a license, a passport AND a birth certificate. They let me through, but after a good half hour of BS and questioning in the "special guy" room. (to get into Canada from WA I should add).

Passport is the accepted international standard. I don't see why they would want more than that -- that's what a passport is for!
