Hi! I'm kinda new to S2Ki - I've been on here before, but haven't really had much chance to look around. Today I did have some spare time and found this club. Cool!
My name is Rich Uchytil. I'm 38, live in Portland, Oregon, have a Black/Black 2001 S2000 I got March 19th from Ron Tonkin ($200 below list - pays to work with the same guy for several cars... hehe). I recently bought the hardtop for the car and it really looks sharp! It's the Honda hardtop, I didn't know there were other hardtops you could get, but I like this one just fine. Looks real sharp! I've had many comments on it from friends.
Wish I could have watched you guys race around PIR on the 27th, but I was travelling down to Eugene for a wedding that day. I must agree with you about the weather, it really sucked. No real problems other than lots of spray from the other cars and big trucks, and of course I'm sitting nice and low so I get ALL of the spray. LOL! I just took it nice and easy, I was in no hurry. Though at one point my wife looked over and asked why I was doing 90. I had sped up to pass a car and forgot to slow back down. Man, this car just rides sooooo nice! The only reason my wife bothered to look was we passed one car quite fast and she wondered how slow they were going - didn't realize they were doing the speed limit and we were going faster. hahaha
Next year when the weather turns nice again I plan on taking the courses at PIR where they teach you how to drive your own car. I've never had a car this nice before and it's so much fun to drive that I decided I really need to have a professional show me how to drive it so I don't do something stupid. Kinda like I did a month or so ago.
I was coming down a hill with lots of curves driving fast cause it's fun to take corners in that car fast. I came to one set of corners marked at 30. Well, those things are always marked much slower than need be, so I took the first corner at about 42, no problem. I sped up to about 53 for the next corner only to realize when I hit it that this corner was MUCH sharper. Fortunately somewhere in my mind I knew I shouldn't hit the brakes. I grabbed the steering wheel with both hands, took my foot off the gas and turned hard hoping this cool performance sports car I had would be ok. The car didn't flinch! I was all set for some fishtaling or something coming out of the corner but there wasn't any. It both thrilled and scared me at the same time. One wrong mistaken and I could have been spinning out of control down the road or down the hill! It was way cool to have the car handle the corner like it was nothing (I think I could have taken it at 60), but also made me back off the speed a bit. That's when I said I really need to take that course so I know how to drive this thing. I've always had front wheel drive cars (except for my first car in high school), so I need to learn what to do with these rear wheel things. Still, that was fun. LOL!
I've only had it up over 100 once, I'm a little too nervous about the cops around here and the congested roads to do that again. That's what tracks are for, right? haha I've not made any modifications to this car and probably won't. I'm not really into that stuff, not into racing a lot. I just enjoy driving it around town, on the back country roads, etc. Plus the car is pretty hot stock.
Anyhow, just thought I'd introduce myself and say HI to everyone in the PNW! If you see me driving around wave and I'll be sure to wave at anyone I see! Later!
But that nifty hardtop could be considered a Mod. Welcome to the club! Hopefully, we can get a Portland meet together once the weather improves. Until then, consider a trip up to Seattle to meet some of the owners. We may not be doing much driving right for the next few months, (Yeah, right...) but there will be at least one event or meet each month.
You might also want to check out the autocross meets when the season starts up again. The driving speeds and courses are very similar to street driving.
LOL,
Speaking of the Fikse's, I've got those bad boys (rear at least) back at Fikse this week for some stretching exercises in hopes of running 295/30-18's. That ought to show that stupid KAAZ who's boss
