Default Info Needed: Oregon Emissions/Inspection Req'ts

I might be moving to Oregon. Given my car's mods, I'm concerned about emissions and inspections requirements that could preclude registering the car in Oregon. (I currently pass both in Virginia, but just barely and with a bit of work.) I don't have a clue what the requirements are -- hopefully less fanatical than California. Can someone fill me in?

Thanks,
CB

Here's a link to the Oregon DEQ website.

Oregon only tests emissions...no inspection.

I would not, of course, violate any laws governing any jurisdiction in which I might live. That said, the use of an OBD-II diagnostic tool is a problem for any vehicle equipped with an aftermarket engine management system. If anyone has any suggestions for dealing with this, I'd appreciate hearing your thoughts. PM me if you'd prefer. Thanks.

what part of Oregon are you moving to? The only places that test emissions are the Portland Metro area and Medford.. everywhere else they don't test....

Probably in/around Portland's suburbs, so I suspect I'll be subject to emissions testing, unless the metro area's pretty small.

Christopher, maybe you could get a PO Box or something outside the city limits to avoid the deal ...... or I'm sure there's a member or two here willing to loan you an address ....or two

I guess I could also run an out-of-state plate, under the assumption that if the car is garaged in the suburbs, isn't used as a daily driver, doesn't collect any parking tickets, and I don't get a handful of speeding violations, there won't be an obvious trail... I know that wouldn't work in California for long, but maybe Oregon's less fascist in their approach to curbing air pollution.

I'm sure if you pass in Virginia, you won't have ANY problems passing in Oregon.. I'm going to guess Oregon uses federal specs when they do emission checks, not a state spec like California..

Hi Ray,

This is timely, as it's now looking almost certain that I'll be moving to Portland in July or August. And, yes, I won't have any data streaming to the OBD-2 port without also reinstalling the OEM ECU, some hardware downstream of the turbo, switching out the wiring on the wideband, and perhaps reinstalling an O2 simulator, all of which makes for a lot of hassle. I'm still looking for options. PM's most welcome.

In any case, I look forward to dogging the RT-mobile through Portland raceway's equivalent of the corkscrew (if it has one)...

Best,
CB
