Default Local place that shave tires?

Anyone know of anywhere in the NW that shaves tires? I got some tires that I already have in possession that need to be shaved for track use.

I have heard of some people getting it done by Les Schwab. It takes a while, because they send them to their Pendleton warehouse for the shaving, but I think it is still only a week or so.

You might also call Warren Secord Tire in Kent to see what they say. They are a trackside dealer for race tires.

You probably already know this, but just in case: I don't think anyone will shave 'em if they've been driven on already.

Let us know what you find out, and how much they charge.

I think Omni will provide this service.

I called a couple places and they won't shave tires that already have been driven on. I may try and call Omni... but it doesn't look good. I guess I'll just have to shave them myself by driving around and going slow on the track

Just talked to Pat at Omni. He doesn't do them and don't remember who does. He recommended that I go find some race tire dealers, but know for pretty certain that they won't shave any tire that has seen the road (small rocks embedded in tire will mess up the shaving machine's blades). So either way, it looks like I'm going to be driving around a lot doing figure 8s.

I did not call Les Schwab or Warren Secord. But for everyone's future information I did find this place in Portland that will shave new tires for $15 a pop:

AnT Tire and Wheel(Trackside Services).
437 SE MLK Jr. Blvd
Portland, OR 97214
(503) 236-2106

Of course, if you have new tires that you want shaved, you should probably just buy them that way. That would be what intelligent people do.

If you have driven on them, that would be the exact reason to call Les Schwab. They use their retread machine for shaving, so all the tires that go on it are used.

I've heard Les Schwab tends to shave tires with very big runouts and very loose tolerances. Do you feel lucky?

hmm, good question. I had a set of new RA1's shaved by them, and they were pretty good. Lasted for about 8 race weekends. But maybe I was lucky, as they definitely LOOK different than the ones you get from Vilven or AIM tires.

Might be worth the risk if nobody else would touch them though.

Jim,

Any specific Les Schwab or person that you deal with?

I'm not sure if I can wear down the tires enough in time for OTC....
