Probably true, but that pool is not randomly selected. It is heavily biased towards people who are predisposed to like the Mac, because often using a Mac is a choice while using Windows is mandated. Those who prefer the Windows are much less likely to find themselves in a situation where they have to use Macs regularly.

True, any pool of combo Mac & PC users is probably made of of people that have to use a PC and choose to use a Mac.

Apple got around this recently with their quad CPU's: Two dual core G5's. If they could only drop them into laptops.
Not going to happen.

Bummed about the failure of Moore's Law recently... Computes aren't doubling in processing speed every 18 months. PC Centrinos have been stuck betweek 1.4 and 1.8Ghz for a couple years now, as have Mac PowerBooks.
Moore's law refers to transistor count, technically. over the years, this has equated to faster clock speed on processors, but even this has died. Hence Intel's shift from Processor centric to Platform centric.

It's also funny, that Microsoft has gone away from Intel (XBox 360), while Apple has done the opposite and is switching to Intel.
Intel storyline here... not enough money to be made by providing MSFT XBox 360 processors. excuse? who knows... MSFT wanted a total redesign in order to be backwards compatible. right now the 360 has two processors, one for 360 games, another for backwards compatibility. so i've heard thru the Intel grapevine... apple is also commited to Intel's newly formed NAND Flash company.

FYI... I was also told in a recent Q&A session w/ Intel's 5th employee that Steve Jobs approached Gordon Moore to be his Mentor when Apple was being born.

My situation is exactly as FTL lays it out - I spend my own money on Macs and use the PC for work.

I picked up the 17" PB because I envisioned it as a desktop replacement. Never really took it anywhere for business or pleasure except for a few presentations.

The Inspirion 9300 is my company leaser. Being twice the thickness of my PB and considerably heavier I *hate* lugging it around. I even expensed a rolling laptop bag because it is so much of a PITA to carry around.

The screen on it is awesome though and the battery life is better than the AlBook.

Actually, this one isn't true. They use software emulation to run XBox games.

I wonder if this is why they bought Connectix (author of Virtual PC, the top Intel emulator for the Mac).

A good buddy of mine works in the XBox group. He told me about the trials and tribulations they went through to get software emulation fast enough to run XBox games reasonably well. This is also why only a subset of XBox games are compatible.

Correct... no way they can fit the fans, heat sinks and ducting required to cool those puppies.
