Default MDX or Pilot?

There is going to be a new addition to the family and it will be a little tough to squeeze 3 car seats into the back of the Accord, so I've been looking at the MDX or the Pilot. There are some differences in them, some major, some not. One of the major differences is price.

MDX has a better warranty, power seats driver and passanger, CD changer standard, fog lights standard, heated mirrors, voice activated controls, outside temp, roof rack standard, 20 more HP, 8 more TQ, 1MPG better on the highway, more volume inside, more legroom (not by much .1") and it has a moon roof.

Price difference at MSRP is $42,500 for the MDX, $32,900+DPI for the Pilot. I can get a lot of accesories for the Pilot that would get it close to the MDX but there are some that you can't get like the moon roof and voice activated controls. The MDX also has a rear DVD player.

Any opinions on either of these vehicles?

Something else to consider. You'll get Acura service with the MDX versus Honda service with the Pilot.

If money isn't a problem I say go for the MDX, we came close to getting it. A Pilot is still a Pilot no matter how much you put into it It's kinna like buying a Civic and putting money into it to get it to look and feel like an S2000. In the end it's still a Civic.

I'd say the best overall value is the Pilot. However, in the lux segment I'd say the best value is the MDX. Acura service and warranty is typically vastly superior to Honda (of course service will vary by location). If cost is more important than I'd say go with the Pilot. If cost is important but you'd like to really treat yourself than I'd go with the MDX. Also, you'll typically make more on a trade/sale from the value of the base car than one you have to pay to add a lot of options. I'd bet the MDX with less added options/upgrades will yield a higher return (as a percentage) than the Pilot with a bunch of options.

We are looking at the MDX and the GX470.

Good luck, you'll enjoy whichever one you purchase.

sorry dude but you're way off... the Pilot and MDX both have the same engine and same chassis (exactly the same platform)... the s2000 isnt a rebadged civic.

but i do agree, if you got the money, MDX all the way. everyone i kno that bought a pilot wishes they sprung extra for the MDX instead. but at the time, they couldnt justify the $10k.

you can think of it like this too, what else can you do with that $10k to the s2000???

They're both ugly.

Get thugged out.

2003 Range Rover sittin' on some chromed out dubdeuces.

but back to reality.....

the mdx is one ugly car.

the pilot looks better (relatively speaking). looks more utilitarian. the mdx is well. pretty much an invisible car.

if i were you, i'd go GX470 and put some 22" foose spank 6s on that bad boy. or if american is your thing, a white Denali oooh weeeeeeeee

Funny...I was just going to say that from purely a styling perspective the MDX is a smoother, more attractive package to my eye, while the Pilot looks more like an heavy RAV4 (not that that is a particularly bad thing).

However, I have no experience with either and I'm not a huge SUV fan (selling my 2001 Grand Cherokee at the moment), so I would probably look around at other options if it were my money...

They don't have the same engine, the MDX has more horse and torque.

I also think the MDX looks better, however, I totally agree that it is invisible. The SUV just has no real style. I'd actually prefer the exterior style of the XC90 with the interior of the MDX.

You'll remember that all MDX's prior to this year had 240HP. They increase output since the pilot came out with 240 and certainly the lux version couldn't have the same.

I have a shiny nickle that says a pilot using an MDX ECU will gain 20 HP and 8 ft lbs.
