Default Mechanic Help

Hi my name is Gaudencio and I'm in need of some help with my girlfriends civic and my s2000. My primary situation is with her vehicle she had just purchased a 1994 civic ex coupe, but come to find out a couple days later the engine started to knock. We then brought it to a local mechanic that I usually bring my vehicle to and they said if she would provide the motor it would be $600 to install. A couple days later after bringing a motor which they said was ok to use, they then said it would be $1,200 to replace the motor and swap it out with the one we brought. We have never been in this kind of situation before so I don't know whats a fair price but this seems kind of odd?My question is does any one know a shop, possibly someone or themselves, who can swap a motor in for a fair price? I know this is a s2000 forum and not a civic one but you guys have helped me greatly before with my coilovers (thanks Calvin)I just thought I would give this a shot. I mention my s2000 only because its about time to replace my clutch and hopefully the same person that would work on the civic would also install my clutch. Thanks for the help!

i would give one of the more civic oriented shops a call. some place like intech probably does one civic swap a day so their mechanics could accomplish it quickly and cost efficiently. 1200 is not thattttt unreasonable imo. say they charge for 3 mechanics at 80 per hour thats only 5 hours.

I believe speedfactory does motor swaps for civics and do clutches for s2000. From what I overheard while I was there, motor swap is cheaper than $1200 also.

i thought 500 was the going rate for a direct replacement. that assumes its a pull & plug with the new motor.

You get what you pay for when it comes to repairs of any car. It sounds like maybe there was a miscommunication between you and the shop you have chosen. Shop around for different price quotes and see what is included. Dont forget that some shops charge you for new oil, fluids, etc. unless you want them to use what you will provide.

I believe the going rate for removal and direct replacement is about $500-800. Where are you located?

You have PM as well.

If you're willing to make the drive up to West Seattle, my buddy's parents own a shop called A&M Auto. They do good work at reasonable prices. LMK if you're interested and I can get a pricing estimate for you.

Stage auto can help you with both. Give tam a call or email and explain what's going on. He has done work on boh my s2000 and fit and I am very picky about who gts to touch my cars. Tam owns an s2000 and has worked on a ton of Hondas.
