Default Need your opinion on this.

My friend just bought a brand new genesis coupe. When she went to remove the license plate, she saw two holes that shouldn't be there. It looks like the dealership either drilled or screwed right into her bumper to attatch the license plate. Those holes really bother her. Do you guys think that the dealership should replace her bumper for this or not? Is it worth trying?

Hell yeah, id take it back and ask for the service manager and point it out. Tell him it really bothers you and feel it should be replaced at no charge. Personally id be firm in my displease, but give him the opportunity to offer to replace it, before I start pressing. I would think something like this would be dealt with without you having to expend much energy. I would hope anyway.

But then again, looking at this picture makes me think that's how they mount all of their plates...

That is how most dealers install plates now a days. I work at a dealer and that is how we have to do it. The only time we don't drill into the bumpers is if the car comes with a bracket for it. It sucks and I hate doing it but you can thanks Washington state law for that.

That's lame. When are they going to get rid of this front plate law already

I'd still go to the dealer and complain, see if they will replace it. Nothing to lose but a little time.

Yup...my wife's Subie is the same way...drill holes right into the bumper. I would've called BS myself had I not seen the indentations for the holes molded into the OEM bumper.

Same thing with my gf's '09 IS250, but it has 4 holes. Seems like they drilled a set of holes only to realize it didn't work out so they drilled a second set!!! Looks so hideous that she wants to put the front license plate back on. I didn't want to waste my time arguing with them as it was sold "as-is".

Very interesting. Thanks for the input guys. Ill give it a shot anyway. I've driven the s2k for 1.5 years with no front plate, just the bumper plugs with no problem. Even cruised by police at slow speeds without them noticing/doing anything. Ill add your list of demands from the dealer to my notes, very valid points cr matey.

You guys are crazy if you think the dealer is going to do anything about it. They need to mount the front plate. The only way to prevent it is to pre-order a vehicle and make sure your dealer agrees not to drill any holes.
