New race group
There were 3 S2000's at the event. I was running Time Trials in TT2 and 2 others were in HPDE 3.
Another fantastic NASA weekend. Great weather and about double the turnout compared to the first event.
Time Trial competition was awesome with some very fast and super nice guys from Oregon duking it out for top times.
I finished 2nd on Saturday with a 1:50.3, less than 0.2 seconds behind 1st place who drove an E92 M3 (fully track prepared - aero, partially stripped interior, brakes, ti exhaust, etc). 3rd place was driving a 997.2 GT3 also well prepared for track use. Both cars were on Yokohama slicks which are 2.5 seconds faster than Hoosiers according to the 3rd place driver.
I was hoping to crack the 1:49's but my supercharger pulley sheared off which cut my Saturday short. I bypassed the SC in order to drive home and put in a single flying lap on Sunday morning NA with a sub-optimal intake and tune (1:56.4, for 3rd place). I didn't want to push it and risk engine damage with the crappy tune/set-up.

Good turnout for the wheel-to-wheel racers as well. A few of them joined the TT group for extra track time and an E46 racecar put down 1:48's in TTU.

That E92 M3 is the car I was talking about earlier. It said LGR on the side of it right?
Edit: nevermind, the M3 I was talking about was MacAleenan's and it did a 1:48 in TT3. Keep calm and carry on.
BTW: very nice time and sorry to hear about the SC pulley.
Double backwards Ninja Edit: Did I add up those entries correctly? Were there really less than 50 cars TOTAL for the whole weekend? Yikes!

There were over 100 entries including HPDE1-4, TT, and W2W racers... And 2 drifters. Better than expected turnout for only the second event. NASA made money and had tripple digit entries which no other NASA region has done in its first year let alone 2nd event. MacAleenan's M3 is a pretty serious W2W build. I'm surprised it fits in the TT3 class.

When scouring the entry result data I only saw 50 some-odd cars for the whole event which seems really light, even for a NASA 1st year event. The reason why I expected more is because of how much "demand" I perceived in the market. I'm not surprised they made money because rent is cheap at TRMP, if they were at PR again, they would not have been profitable with only 100 or so entries. Since the upcoming NASA weekend is on the same weekend as a Conference weekend they won't get the cross over entries from the Conference guys so it might be even lighter on entries, unless Portland has a lot of TT'ers/HPDE/Drifters lying in wait.
What NASA offers for drifters and TT'ers is really neat. Their big appeal with racers will be the possibility of a national event and tire contingency programs which will be appealing for some w2w guys but for the most part I think NASA's PacNW growth is going to be in the form of HPDE/TT/Drift and that's a good thing because there isn't a lot out there for TT/Drift folks. It's also good for the Conference and SCCA guys that need track time between events for shakedown or testing. Right now w2w guys pay $299 and get to race on Sat and Sunday and I surmise that's an "artificially low price" that's intended to grow market share and won't last after some growth has incurred.
Macaleenan's M3 is indeed serious. I think it fits in TT3 because it's running 10:1 power/weight ratio with 10" max width wheels (Because of ST rules in Conference) and despite that, he's putting down those times.
Late NASA PIR update. I took second place both Saturday and Sunday behind Andre's GT3. My times were 1:24.1 on Saturday and 1:24.3 on Sunday. Track configuration was with festival turns. TT2 was again the fastest group at the event. They had a mobile dyno so several of us got official whp numbers. My car ran 369 and Andre's was somewhere around 425 I think. The GT3 gained a lot of ground on the straights where hp/aero is more critical than hp/weight. I ran a 1:26.0 last time I was at PIR many years ago and pre-supercharger so I was a little disappointed with my times. I think I was consistently over slowing for T10. Pre-supercharger, I could downshift for T10 and not brake and that was enough to make the turn and then brake for T11. Now that I'm carrying more speed, I need to brake but probably not as much as I was. Another TT2 competitor lost it in T10 and wrecked into the tire wall so I was being extra cautious.
Last weekend was NASA ORP. Holy crap is ORP a fun track. If you haven't been - it's totally worth the drive. The top speeds are lower and it has massive elevation changes (in car videos don't do this track justice). I was shifting 20 times per lap and there is no long straight to rest on. 16 turns, blind corners, lots of banked and off camber corners. I don't think any corner is flat. We ran clockwise on Saturday. I finished in 2nd again to Andre's GT3. My fastest lap was a 1:52.0. Sunday, we ran the course counter clockwise which seems faster but my fastest lap was a 1:52.6 which was enough for FTD/FTE/1st place in TT2. We only had 6 or 7 cars in our group and are gridded by laptime so it was essentially 80-90 miles of open track each day. CCW is scary. There are some high speed blind corners and several downhill off camber braking zones, but when you get it right, it's awesome. Run off is also really good. The only thing you can hit is the concrete wall at pit exit. It's on the inside of T16 but does get hit occasionally.
Next event is Sept 14th/15th at PR. NASA is a really cool group to run with. I encourage you to try an event (HPDE or TT) with them.
