Default OT: Engineer bonding

So, about 6-8 months ago I bought "the Drill Doctor" (As seen on TV!). But I never actually used it, because I didn't have anything new to drill. Well I told my dad (a retired civil engineer) I had it, and today he asked me to bring it over.

After the tragedy of the Red Sox getting into the World Series, we went out to his garage and tried it out. And hey, it was pretty cool! You just line this up here and set this over there and viola, it sharpens a bit. So we went to town on sharpening several of them. We even put one of the bits into his drill press and drilled a hole through some scrap steel, just to see if it was really sharp. It was.

Geekhood is genetic.

Huh? Are you proposing a group buy or shared ownership (a la fender roller)?

Full disclaimer: I own a drill doctor

But no, Ray's first guess was correct. It's just a diamond grit grinding wheel with a fixture that uses a cam to automatically cut the right angle on the bits.

No, you have to get your own dad. I'm not sharing mine.

(OK, really that's not true. These days his dogs are actually only reluctantly sharing him with me....)
