Default Performance Driving Experience

The SCCA used to have a program called Solo 1, which allowed race drivers who did not want wheel-to-wheel race competition to still have a competitive format and compare lap times. These events were on road racing courses, participants were only allowed to pass in safe sections and whoever had the best lap time of the day won the event!

Recently, Solo 1 changed their name and format to Time Trails. Now it is a much easier to get involved! You used to have to install a complete roll cage and purchase a fire suit and helmet to race in Solo1. But Time Trails has been divided into four levels, the bottom level being a way to get involved in Time Trails without spending a ton of money to race!

The first level is called Performance Driving Experience (PDE), which allows novices to try a Time Trials event with just a racing helmet. Now you can see who is the better driver without trying to sneak a stopwatch into a normal lapping day

The next PDE takes place at Bremerton Motorsports Park on April 2nd. Anyone is welcome, you do not have to be a SCCA member. A registration form can be obtained from: http://www.nwr-scca.org/race/2005/2005_APRIL_PDE.pdf

Hopefully some of you would be very interested in something like this, it looks like a very fun event and you can be a part of history in the making! This will be the very first novice Time Trail event in the NW!

Let me know if you have any questions...
Thanks!

Thanks for the heads up on this event, Anada.

I've added it to the Track Event Schedule, and put a link from there to here for more info.

Just another FYI,

On this same day the SCCA is going to have a High Performance Clinic. This is an opportunity to learn how to drive your car at higher speeds with the help of an instructor. Cost is $100, very low cost considering you get four 20 minute one-on-one sessions when compared to Pacific Raceway. Plus Bremerton, in my opinion, is a pretty good beginners track.

Registration forms can found at www.nwr-scca.org in the race link. For the more experienced, I have used this event as a lapping day for a fair price.

Hope to see some of you out there!

OK, so I've never participated in any auto-x/track/race thing ever. The whole thing is new to me. The S2K is the first sports car I've owned and I've had it for about a year now. I'm definitely what you would call a "spirited" driver but I don't have any formal training or experience.

I've been interested in getting into something like this but haven't been sure of the best way to approach it. I'm pretty nervous about it not having had any training.

So, given what I've said above, do you think this is something that would be good for me, or is it still out of my league, so to speak?

Thanks,
Joe

Yeah... the high performance clinic is for people like you. You will be given a personal instructor who will teach you techniques on race lines, braking points, steering with the throttle, etc.

It wil be good training and has certainly helped me over the past 2 years.

The S2000 is my first rear wheel drive car and it took me awhile to get used to it. My first reaction was to lift off the throttle when the rear end came loose, however, through practice in auto-x, track days, and the clinics, I am finally getting the hang of it. I am not an expert like RT...

But I can certainly run him off the track in a go-kart!!!

Mike or RT, any of you thinking about these time trials? Seems like this would be right up your alley. More bragging rights perhaps.

Actually, I like to drive fast. But I'm not all that into competition.

Maybe because when I do get into competition, I don't seem to have a rheostat. So I try to pick and choose what I'm going to get competitive about....
