When I was using dino oil - my car would make a little valve rattle upon startup. Pretty much only happened if the car had sat for more than a week or so.

i switched to synthetic @ 10K miles and haven't really heard the rattle since...

Good Luck, bro.

i've been synthetic for a while. thx JDawg (as it appears on my caller ID)

maybe it's because i like to stand at 9,100 RPMs in first gear while rollin thru the middle of bellevue square at 15mph just because the F20C is the only OEM warrantied engine that can? just kidding honda

Met Phil. Initial impression is that he's a cool guy with a level head.

Put on the stethoscope again. Pointed it to the injectors. The first one (closest one to you?). You could feel that sucker pulsate through the thing. My buddy service guy took the intake cover plastic thing off... still making noises, but a lot less.

They're ordering 4 new injectors... replacing the first one and then whatever more that's needed to get rid of the rattle.

Get it checked out fellas. Do the stethoscope thing and see what they say.

i'll keep updating with new info. this is the best i got so far.

mikey boy, You get pull by yanking people's chains in all the right spots.

update
ok so the new fuel injectors are in for the 1, 2 cylinder. the rattle is gone, but the funny thing is... before i took the car in for the work, i changed oil and when i got to start it up 4-5 times under the same conditions... i didn't get the rattle... ever.

now there is no rattle although sometimes i hear it very faintly but nowhere near the noise it was making before.

post-repair, i got some good hesitation in VTEC. sounded like the typical map sensor problem... but i'm thinking maybe the ECU or whatever needed to readjust to the new fuel injectors? problem occurred a few times while romping through I-5 and 520..... but no longer. i won't get to drive the car for about 2 weeks so we shall see...

another problem that my service bud detected yesterday was my roller bearing or whatever is touching the clutch plate making this high pitched whistle noise. when i press down on the clutch, no noise. they say they'll warranty this if i want... maybe i should get a pressure plate or whatever while they got the tranny dropped?

BEN - is this just potential problems with having a high compression engine, or is it specifically isolated to just your situation? How do you figure this problem arose? just curious, and also hoping this isn't applicable to the f22.

don't fret, kid

i haven't heard of too many cases like mine. not sure why it happened to my engine, but maybe it's because i like to hold it at high revs and just be obnoxiously loud i dunno.

in all seriousness, you should be otay. i've never gotten a CEL.
