Default Taking headlight housing apart...

I am planning to change the amber diffusers to the smoke ones tomorrow and I have never taken apart the headlight housing before so I was wondering if someone who has done it before can help me with it? It would be nice to have someone who has done it before to give tips... I will provide you with food/beer for it..

It's pretty easy. If you wanna drive down to Oregon then I can help you with it Just take your time and do it, you should be fine. Make sure you 'BAKE' the headlights and not BROIL it . Also I set the temp at 230 degrees for 15 minutes at a time. The glue is very tough to pry apart. Make sure you use the butter knife to separate the housing since you can burn your hands trying to separate it. Good luck. It should be a fun experience for you though

Make sure you don't get the glue all over the housing it's a biatch to clean off. I wrapped mine on a wet towel in case the metal grill has any idea. It'll be steaming coming of the oven.

That FAQ is sufficient for the operation. Make sure you have all the parts and tools necessary before starting. Additionally, you may want to double check that your oven is large enough to hold the headlight assembly. One of the guys I helped out, had a small oven and a big headache.

Be extremely careful not to break the tabs that secure the plexiglass to the ABS plastic on the assembly. You can always add more silicon glue to preserve the seal, but you don't want to use more than necessary. And try not to get any gunk on the plexiglass 'cause it looks ghetto after you put everything back together.

I wouldn't use a wet towel since you can get moisture in the housing after sealing the headlight back together. It would be a PITA to reopen the housing to get the moisture out Rick's instruction is pretty good but you gotta crank up the temp a little higher and bake them a little longer

I found taking them apart pretty easy, but sealing them back up a PITA. Had to rebake them like 4 times to get them back together.

From Risk2k.com, there is a part where you need to shape diffuser by dipping in 140 degree water for like 20 seconds. Is it really necessary? I am afraid it is going to melt the plastic...
