Default Weird Noise

I'm getting a noise that sounds like it is coming from under the gear shift. It sounds like something is rubbing like metal on metal but very lightly and when I speed up it gets louder. I take the car out of gear when driving and it doesn't change, I push the clutch in and it doesnt change. Does anyone know what it might be before I take it up to Honda? I thought it might be a bearing in the hub but the sound sounds more like it is coming right under the gear shift.

A wheel bearing, CV joint, or differential are the likely culprits. Do you feel a wobble? If it is more of a screech than a thunking it is more likely to be the wheel bearing.

I'm not getting any wobble, and it's a constant noise that gets louder and faster the faster I go. My first thought was a wheel bearning but I thought I would ask and see if anyone had other ideas.

Thanks guys.

Based on your description it sounds like a bearing is failing. I'd have to check it in person to confirm.

Glad it's not dark out (people would be getting stabbed)

Does it sound like wind noise or road noise at all? How slow do you have to go to not hear it?

It doesn't sound like wind or road but more like light metal on metal and I think I can hear it pretty much until I stop. I have to coast to really hear it because of the exhaust noise. I hear it pretty good when I am driving by the center barrier on the road when my windows are down. If I put my ear close to the shift knob I hear it better also, like it's coming from under it.

.... as you're coasting down does the sound change volume or frequency if you rev?

No it doesn't change sound when I rev. I have tried reving up, shifting, clutch in and out, braking to see if it changes the sound and nothing does. The only thing that changes the sound is speed.
