Default What to do in Pac NW

The wife and I are coming from Winnipeg for the Leavenworth drive on August 5th and 6th, and wish to spend a little time in the area before the long haul home.

I took koala's advice and we are planning to see Mt St Helens.

We also plan to drive the Columbia River from Portland to Tri Cities. I did the drive from East to West in 89 but it was in a mini van. At the time I remember thinking it would be a good drive in a fast car.

Anyone have any recommendations for sights to see or S2K friendly drives to take?

Also on Sunday August 6th we will be returning to Bellevue from Leavenworth but would like to stay somewhere south of Seattle, Olympia for example, before heading on to Mt St Helens. Any recommendations on nice accommodations in the Olympia area? Historic, awesome, or friendly B&B's?

The Washington side is a two-lane highway. The Oregon side is an Interstate. WA side is probably more scenic and fun, but more of the interesting stops (Hood River, Multanomah Falls) are on the Oregon side. The Stonehenge monument is on the WA side. So is Beacon (aka Castle) Rock. http://www.parks.wa.gov/parkpage.asp?selec...n+Rock&pageno=1

Somebody from the interior might really enjoy driving around the Olympic Peninsula. Ocean beaches, the Hoh Rain Forest, Hurricane Ridge, maybe take a ferry boat ride.

Mt Rainier National Park is always worth a visit, though too many people miss out by only going to the places you can drive to.

I guess it all depends on how much time you have.
