Wait untill you see a used D700 for 1k in a years time

I would agree though. The DX isnt gonna drop in value that much but the FX lenses will allow you to use them if u upgrade.

There is this guy who has examples of the 1.4 and 1.8 but I wouldn't dare mention his name on this board. (It starts with a "k" and ends in a "en rockwell". I didn't say it though. Take his site with a grain of salt.

KR is alright. He's just got a bad rap because people think you need to be an amazing photographer to have an opinion. His site has a lot of info but like anything on the net you gotta filter it. I wouldn't take anything anyone says as law or fact. Combine all the info you can find and make your own conclusion.

pretty much.

if it were up to KR, all that would exist are the D40 and 18-200.

Usually the 1.4 is the way to go. The 1.8 is sharpest, but the 1.2 has better DOF. The 1.4 is a great combo of the two, and the build is great as well.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe I am; no one makes a 35mm f/1.2. Not Nikon, not Canon, certainly not the 3rd party manufacturers.

Canon has 50mm and 85mm f/1.2 lenses. They also have 24mm and 35mm f/1.4 lenses.

Nikon is not currently making a 35mm f/1.4. They have a 35mm f/1.8G and a 35mm f/2D. They now have a 24mm f/1.4, but I don't know if it's shipping yet (probably is by now).

Nikon used to have a 35mm f/1.4, though.
