Default Which 4GB Compact Flash?

Hey all,

Wondering what type of CF you guys are using, and size. Also, is there a difference between a $50 card and a $150 card? If so, what?

Thanks!

Check out MicroDrives too - they've worked well for me. Aside from those I stick with Lexar and Sandisk. The Gold Lexars and Ultra II's are fast enough to keep up with most of the DSLR's on the market, so you made a good move.

Yes speed matters..

I only use Sandisk Extreme III in my D2x Fast... fast
and downloading at home , fast download seed also

I think they are rated at 40 R/W

speed also matters when you're firing away for various sports. If something like a fight breaks out and you're gonna sit on that shutter - you'll fill your internal memory up and have to wait for the camera to write to your card.

I have no problems with the SanDisk Extreme II at the 2gig level... but my Extreme II 8gig is very noticeably slower... (and the Extreme III's came out shortly after my purchase)

Microdrives work... but they're too slow imo

I would say yes and no...

Your camera bus and only transmit at a finite speed as well, which may be slower than the top speed of your card. My friend has an older Rebel XT that can only transmit around 1mb/sec so a 20x card or a 40x card will be the same.

If you have a 5D however, you may find a difference between cards but probably not at the top end.... i.e. Sandisk Ultra II may be just as fast as the III or IV.

Here's a great resource i found regarding card performance in difference SLRs.

I have a transcend 4GB 150x card. I know it's one of the cheapy brands but it works perfectly fine for me and it comes with a lifetime warranty.

With it, my Rebel XT can burst mode (in jpeg) non stop until the card is full - no pauses to write at all. I don't remember how many it can do in RAW, i'll have to check later. I seem to remember it being pretty good though - 12-15 before a very short pause IIRC.

I have a Ridata 4GB 150x card. It's only stopped me twice when I was shooting in burst mode. Otherwise, it's been fine.

I didn't really want to start another thread for this, so while we're on the topic. Does Delkin still make the fastest cardbus CF readers? I couldnt find any current info on the net. It was all dated...
